I'm surprised that I can't see clear through to the other side though. It must be dirt like you said.

17. Seriously, check out the photo of a wireless earpiece
at http://cryptome.org/bush-bulge.htm , a web page that someone on the Democrats. com website posted a link for. This was in a general discussion of whether Bush might be wearing an earpiece, and that cryptome.org page shows a receive-a-cue system with a tiny earpiece about that size. (Though in the photo shown there, the wheel-shaped section that I believe is the adjustable volume control is pulled out, and it obviously would snap shut.)

Take another look at this blowup, and notice the straight vertical lines on the artifical pink surface. Those aren't natural.

As for the tiny object in the upper ear that Paxdora (in message 11 here) pointed out looks like a bead -- that might be the tip of the very small antenna some wireless earpieces have, and it's about the right length antenna, judging by photos I saw on various web pages advertising such earpieces. There does appear to be a straight wirelike line down from that "bead" to what looks like an earpiece.

I used Google to check a lot of web pages and couldn't find any that look exactly like the one in this photo, with that distinctive pattern of vertical lines on that side of the earpiece, but I'm sure I saw only a tiny fraction of the earpieces available.

Another point: the color of the earpiece and bead (at the tip of the antenna) doesn't match the skin tone anywhere else in that photo. And combined with the vertical lines...

By the way, as I've mentioned in a couple of other messages here that I've posted since last night, I ran across a November 1999 article from The New Republic, a feature article on Karen Hughes, which describes her mouthing Bush's answers word-for-word, a half-beat before he said each word, when he was taking questions from the press after a campaign stop in Delaware.

11. It looks like some kind of miniature hearing aid
Check out the little "bead" that's nestled into the upper part of his ear - it's part of the device, for facilitating easy removal and keeping the bigger part from being shoved deeper into the ear canal..

15. I swear I saw something in the fool's ear throughout the second debate..
coupled with the photo of W. standing @ the podium with a square lump under his jacket during the first debate, I am personally satisfied that he is being prompted.
What I cannot grasp, though, is how someone who is wired to be fed his responses can still be so f&$%#ng STUPID and INCOHERENT??!!
