Last Friday I heard something
very disturbing: the Nevada state Republican party -- in spite of the fact that the "mail-in" registration deadline for Nevada voters expired on Oct. 2 -- is
still placing automated phone calls ("robocalling") to potential Republican voters, encouraging them to
request a voter registration form. This person that I spoke to is adamant that:
- the call was placed last Thursday (Oct. 7)
- the automated message named the NV state Republican party as the sponsor of the call
- the automated message offered to send, on request, voter registration forms
Here's some background info that makes me very suspicious about that automated call:
- Just last week, reports surfaced about an unexpected, sudden boost in registered Republican voters, overtaking the Democrats who, since the Primaries in mid February had a massive surge in registrations. This "last minute" surge of GOP voters is, to put it mildly, suspect - especially given that Democrats had "outregistered" Republicans by a few thousand voters.
- There are quite a few complaints filed here in Reno about phony voter registration forms and GOP registration teams refusing to register anyone but Republicans. The F.B.I. is looking into that as we speak.
- The voter registrars' offices are swamped by the massive surge in voter registrations - which is not surprising, given the "energizing" effect these elections have on supporters of either party. But quite oddly, out of many reports I've heard concerning late or not yet received voter registration cards here in NV, those complaints almost exclusively come from people who registered as a Democrat.
If there's anyone else in Nevada who received such a call, please let me know - or better yet: let the voter registrar know, and
file a complaint.Meanwhile, I'm trying to reach as many people as I can, to see if they received such an automated call, too.
Ballot box stuffing,
here in Nevada?P.S.: I just heard from a second, unrelated source who also received a robocall, late last week - *after* the deadline.
