Good news from Minnesota ... me thinks!
;) My sister - a Head Start Teacher who works with and meets many young people, said that she is noticing a vast interest in the election! She said most of the people she has had conversations with are in their early 20's and are very motiviated to vote for John Kerry! She feels this is a result of a combination of F-911 (which is all the rage among these young people) and the P-Ditty, hip-hop get out the vote movement.

I was quite discouraged some time ago, because she was telling me she knew FEW people who were voting as they didn't feel their was a difference between the two major party's.

Also, her boyfriend - who is about 29 and has never voted in his entire life - is voting in this election for John Kerry ... people who were NEVER interested in politics are NOW taking part in our democracy! I am literally choked up over this.

Also, she said for the very first time ever, Head Start is registering parents to vote! She has been with Head Start for about ten years now, and has seen nothing like it.

Sorry for the confusing post, I am just so encouraged!

:toast:

Let us hope that these mini-movements on the left will make a difference come election day! :toast:

2. New registrations
are up all over the place, and I'm sure everyone who has registered is planning to vote. And the vast majority is voting Kerry. I don't think the polls or the pundits are counting on the HUGE turnout that will happen on Nov. 2.

4. Sounds really really Good, mzmolly!
There are stories like this popping up all Over the Country!

bush is the biggest damn uniter this country has ever seen..he was really right on that..only problem for bush is..he United All of us against him.

Whereas Kerry when he says he will be a uniter..he means getting the people all together now..

20. My sisters said that her friends feel this way (uninspired to vote)

Some of them are fellow Head Start teachers, who risk not having jobs if Bush is re-elected.

Here is what she said:

1. They don't vote because they don't think the candidates are that much different (in other words they are not politically educated about how THEY will be - have been effected by policy)

2. They don't vote because they don't trust that their votes will be properly counted. They think the system is dishonest.

Now, if we can show people how policy effects THEM and indicate that Kerry/Edwards are working to keep this election honest, we might make some headway.

I was very discouraged after hearing what she had to say initially in August, I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear about this turn around. I think it is indicitive of a greater movement nation wide. :hi:

7. Minnesota for Kerry-Edwards
Everywhere you go there are Kerry-Edwards signs.

The only way Bush can win is if the vote count is distorted as it was in Florida on November 2000.

8. I'm confident
Kerry will win MN. It's been very close in the polls, but I've only seen Bush with a lead in that state once, and that too it was by a point. It was very close last time, with Nader taking quite a bit. The state has trended republican in recent yers, but with Nader's support being a fraction of what it was, I think KErry will win it by 3-4 points.

9. Good News--From Louisiana
I know some teenagers who, though unable to vote because they haven't turned 18, are planning to do volunteer work at Kerry HDQ. They found out they can use the volunteer time for service hour requirements for service organizations like National Honor Society.

But that's just a bonus; they're very anti-Bush and want to be involved. And they are defintiely influenced by Michael Moore. Many are fans of him because of "Bowling for Columbine." And they've heard all the draft stories too. They are not happy about this war. They may not understand economic issues but they understand war.

It may not make a difference in the end in this heavily Republcian area but it sure makes this middle-aged Liberal very happy. :)

19. Yard sign count in affluent neighborhoods unbelievable. My wife and I
drove down the North shore of Lake Superior the other day from Two Harbors to Duluth. Lake front homes along the scenic drive had Kerry signs by 3 to 1. Taking that route we entered Duluth on London Road, which has the highest price homes in the city - again along the Lake front. Kerry signs there outnumbered Bush signs about 2 to 1.

Later the same weekend we were in Minneapolis and drove down Minnehaha Parkway leading to Minnehaha Falls. Again a veeeeerrryyy affluent neighborhood. The actual count I took was 32 signs for Kerry / Edwards, and 5 signs for Bush / Cheney.

I think we can count on the vote of affluent Minnesotans who appreciate nature and enjoy a good view.

And I think a lot of young people are going to vote. My 12 year old son says that MTV's "Rock the Vote" and "Choose or Lose" campaigns are going to bring a ton of kids out to vote!

BUSH IS GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!!!!!!!!

He just moved to Pittsburgh but is coming home that day to vote.

I'm proud of this generation and their activism and convictions!

23. it's amazing. it's stories like this that we will never hear in the media
i'm so glad to hear that. to add: my neighbors, 40's, family folks who have never voted in their lives are voting this year. they are terrified of another 4 years of bushco. they are tired of his warmongering ways and they are not alone. they tell me that their social circle is voting kerry as well.

24. Voter registration up in my area, too. (DC-VA-MD)
And I know my faithful Minnesota relatives will be making the effort for Kerry! They were all Wellstone fans and some of them even volunteered for PW.
