Flop sweat update: "Official: Bush Team Has Formal Iraq Plan" (FOX)
Now THIS is what I call DESPERATE. "There's a PLAN, and we're USING it, we just can't VALIDATE or DISCUSS IT in DETAIL because it's CONFIDENTIAL."

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration has developed a formal written strategy for Iraq that envisions using a mix of diplomacy and military force to try to wrest control of dozens of key cities from insurgents before planned January elections, a senior administration official said Friday.

The strategy — already largely outlined by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other top officials in recent weeks — was developed over the summer as Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry (search) was accusing President Bush (search) of lacking a coherent plan to end the rising violence and pave the way for the withdrawal of American troops.

With more than 1,000 Americans killed, Iraq has become a dominant issue in the campaign. Administration officials — most notably Rumsfeld and State Department officials — have differed openly about whether Iraqi elections have to be held in every area of the country, because of the violence.

The administration argues that it is pursuing an integrated political, economic and military strategy to defeat the insurgency, and identifies dozens of areas where the strategy is to be applied, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the plan is classified.

4. It's sad in an infuriating kind of way
"The strategy — already largely outlined by Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other top officials in recent weeks — was developed over the summer as Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry (search) was accusing President Bush (search) of lacking a coherent plan to end the rising violence and pave the way for the withdrawal of American troops."

1). Rumsfeld wrote it over the last couple of weeks. Remember, "weeks" literally means "more than one week." So "recent weeks" can mean "over the last couple of weeks."

2). "developed over the summer"...which means that prior to the summer there was no plan, YES.

3). "as Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry was accusing President Bush of lacking a coherent plan to end the rising violence and pave the way for the withdrawal of American troops." SO...Bush attacks Kerry for criticizing his non-existent Iraq "plan," but he's RIGHT because there WAS NO plan, so in conclusion John Kerry should be OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.

5. Sure they have a plan, and it's old news ...
So, they are going to reveal that PNAC has been the plan for years? Shock and Awe was several years old before they used it? Wolfowitz was the Forefather of the Iraqi Revolution?

Let's see, four nice, juicy military bases in Iraq. Look at all those countries you can hit now.

Now, that's a plan!

Defeat the insurgency? What about all the natives who want the Imperial forces out? Dozens of areas? Sure, there are dozens of areas that are totally out of control.

Of course, the announcement was a poltical ploy, just like the school terra alert. I am just wondering who is stupid here. People who still buy this dying regime's tactics, or the regime's inability to see that overkill is going to make the veil thinner?

"Oh, BTW, we have an exit strategy now!" Doh!

10. This is the October surprise
They tricked us! We thought they were clueless and incompetent but they were working on a plan all along. Boy, do I feel stupid! I'm going to go out right now and take the Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers off my car.
These guys are too clever for me.

11. Wow! It only took them what, a year and a half?
Sorry folks but ah, I've been wrong about Bush all this time. He's just as decisive, tough, and shit-kickin' as all his supporters say about him. At this rate, in about ten years, he'll have more than a plan. He'll have a god damn IDEA!

12. I wonder if this has something to do with them finding the website
Remember how freepers were jumping over that they mailed 3 million of their own people and were going to use his own words against him? They were all jumping up and down because they had found the website on Kerry's plan of Iraq. It was a separate website then the main website. How much you want to make a bet they are claiming that as their plan.

16. Oh my God! It's Nixon redux!
The "secret plan" that can't be discussed.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Don't these assholes EVER fucking learn?

This HAS to be a setup, trying to lure Kerry into a mistake.

17. W reminds me of Baldrick from the Black Adder
"I have a plan. A cunning plan." Too bad it's a secret. It's very hard to implement a plan when you won't tell anyone what the heck it is.

19. That is HILARIOUS
The didn't draft a plan until KERRY told them they didn't have one. But, but... they can't TELL us what the plan is.

They're becoming so incredibly transparent that even the soft Bush supporters should be seeing through that load of shit.
