We just watched Going Upriver, I have never been more pro-Kerry
I recommend everyone see this film, it will show you that our candidate is a man of courage, conviction, and real morals.

John Kerry took a tremendous risk to stand up and gather his fellow vets together. I firmly believe that his actions saved more veteran's lives than any other single person.

Nixon feared him, as well he should have, John Kerry was not a long haired weirdo, nor wild-eyed radical, but in the words of Haldeman, "He looks like a Kennedy, and talks like a Kennedy." Nixon's men all thought that Kerry had done a good job in speaking to the Senate. He articulated the vet's case well. They did their job, only to find themselves abandoned by their superiors.

I was struck by two things, first the eerie parallels to Iraq. Johnson said he wanted to have elections in Vietnam and Nixon wanted to train the South Vietnamese to defend themselves. It was a war that had many asking why these good men had been sent to fight and die. It was a war in which the aggressive tactics turned many in the country against us. It was a war without a clear cut mission and without an exit strategy.

Second, I was struck by the fact that the present administration is making the same mistakes that Nixon did. Both by not being honest with the country and by slandering and slamming any who oppose them.

I guess I came away from this movie realizing that this election is not about the next four years. It is about the next hundred. Are we going to blindly follow leaders who won't admit their mistakes and send good men to early graves or are we going to stand up and make America strong and good again?

1. Where did you see it?
I just ordered it from Amazon.com and it isn't being released until the 19th.

Are you in one of those lucky liberal areas that has this kind of movie in the theaters?

5. Yes that movie took me back and reminded me why this is the same.
We are at the beginning of the same thing that happened in Nam. I was a heart wrenching time during the war and protest. A lot of us remember John Kerry's fight and speech. I still see the same man only with age and wisdom improved. He is an amazing man and will be a wonderful president.

11. one aspect of the film...
...that I wasn't expecting was the sheer emotion of the vets and their protest. The ribbon & medal throwing 'ceremony' has always been seen previously as a short clips depicting a 'protest' and empty of real content . But This extensive scene had my wife and I in tears, the event was truly historic and displayed so openly the inner torment, abandonment and defiance these brave men felt.

15. And with our "cold fish" candidate
crying at the end of it with his head down, being held by his wife at the time.

That alone got me the first time I saw that picture. I was still ABB at that point, looking at "Tour of Duty" when I encountered it. I lost it right in the middle of Starbucks. How embarrassing.

12. Just got home...
...from the 7:00 show at a local theater. I was really surprised at how few people were there, probably not more than 15 of us. Agree with all you said.

14. Saw this in Houston
There weren't many in the theater, but I noticed a couple behind us with their teenage son. I'm downloading the movie now, because I want my two children to see this. I was a child of the sixties and I remember the pain of living through Viet Nam. Just watching the pain on the faces of the young men who came back as they spoke of their experiences and then listening to the young Marine corporal speak on Farenheit 911 of his decision to not return to Iraq because he could no longer justify killing innocent Iraqi's - how can anyone who lived through that awful time not make the connection between Viet Nam and Iraq. We are still fighting the ugliness of Viet Nam as evidenced by the reappearance of John O'Neill. This country needs John Kerry. Some people are destined to take their place in history at times when this country needed leaders, and his time is now.

16. Yes. An awesome documentary.
Win or lose, John Kerry is above all a good and honorable man, something Bush* and Company can never be.
