St. Louis "Swing State" Missouri newspaper endorses KERRY
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/9886702.htm?1c

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Sunday endorsed John Kerry for president, saying he understands President Bush "took a wrong turn by transforming the war on terrorism into an invasion of Iraq."

The paper said Bush has failed to acknowledge problems in Iraq, passed on a huge debt load to the next generation, and presided over a decline in jobs, health insurance and median household income.

"In the troubled election of 2000, Mr. Bush ran as a compassionate conservative who wanted to create a 'lockbox' for Social Security and unite the nation, while conducting a humble foreign policy that eschewed nation-building," the endorsement said. "He pried open the lockbox, conducted an arrogant foreign policy, tried to grow a democracy in burning sand and left the nation more divided than at any time since Vietnam."

"John Kerry's campaign has given up on Missouri because they recognize his 20-year, out-of- the-mainstream record does not represent Missouri values," campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Millerwise said. "John Kerry is running as the complainer in chief but offers no credible alternatives, just attacks. (Sunday) in The New York Times he likened the war on terror to fighting gambling and prostitution, further demonstrating that he fundamentally does not understand the kind of enemy we face."

1. Yeah, but the STLPD has always leaned left.
Not a big surprise to us in St. Louis.

3. Kerry Campaign has not given up on Missouri....................
Edited on Sun Oct-10-04 11:05 PM by TheDeb
At the last Kerry Meet-up in Kansas City 2&1/2 weeks ago, the Kerry staffer told us that Missouri was still up for grabs, Kerry Campaign was about to hire 20 - 22 more staffers in Missouri and that the bushies were worried enough about Missouri to keep sending * surrogates.

Don't swallow the * lies about Missouri being ceded to the repubs - it's been a lie with legs for the last 2 weeks and dubya's followers are definitely worried.

5. Yes, you are right
I am volunteering with moveon here and we are getting a tremendous response. I would be surprised if MO went to Bush, very surprised.

6. MO is in play
Edwards is going to be in KC tomorrow, and the polls no longer show Bush with a big lead. MO is probably going to be decided by who has the best GOTV operation on the ground.

8. I am working with Victory 2004 and MoveOn in St. Louis. The rally
Friday night was very well attended, I think there were at least 15,000 people, the place was packed. Kerry was great. I am taking off November 2 and I plan on working at least 10 hours. I will be doing more phone banking and whatever else is necessary this week. This is it folks! I think we can do it.
