OK. The 87 billion came up again in the 2nd debate, and again, Kerry failed to hit it out of the park.
I voiced my original frustration with that here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=937440Now here was Kerry's interesting reply at the end of the last debate:
I made a mistake in the way I talk about it. :eyes: He made a mistake in invading Iraq. Which is a worse decision?
Now, I voted the way I voted because I saw that he had the policy wrong and I wanted accountability. I didn't want to give a slush fund to Halliburton. I also thought the wealthiest people in America ought to pay for it, ladies and gentlemen. He wants your kids to pay for it. I wanted us to pay for it, since we're at war. I don't think that's a bad decision.
No mention that * threatened to veto this very bill because the funds were originally a loan (more fiscally responsible), not a grant. Only an oblique reference to the fact that it rolled back tax cuts to pay for it. etc, etc. This has been discussed 'round here ad infinitum.
But, at least he mentioned Halliburton. He didn't do that before (at least wrt the $87B). In fact, his whole tone was rather evasive & cursory, as if he had more to say but was holding something back. ((duh, yeah because he only had 30 seconds to compose a cogent answer, argh :( )
Which leads me to state my
fervent hope that his campaign is planning on nailing * with it sometime in the next 3 wks. I thought the town-hall debate was the ideal place to do this, but maybe I'm wrong. Is Kerry saving this for a last minute knockout punch, or am I just dreaming of Plame indictments again?
