Didn't anyone else notice Lieberman's offensive comment in the debate?
When Lieberman was asked what was the most important thing he would do to help minorities he said he would "fund special education".

Am I the only one who found that really offensive? I mean, by that statement Lieberman is assuming that most minorities have learning disabilities or are developmentally disabled. If anyone wants to help minorities in the area of education they should make sure their schools are in good repair, their text books and materials are up to date, they have computers, a good library and all the things all students need? Fund a breakfast program to make sure kids start the day with fuel for their body and brain.

I can't believe that Sharpton didn't call Lieberman on that nonsense. I guess he was too busy making a fuss over Vermont not having enough minorities in Vermont to fill one of the 6 cabinet positions. Clearly Lieberman's comment was THE most offensive thing said during the whole debate, and Sharpton gave him a pass on it. Why?

4. I thought he said "education" not "special education".

5. I think he said both,
but he did say "fund special education" first. It sorta threw me enough to make me frown which is why I remember it.

10. Yeah, he did say that first
which gave me the same reaction you said you had. I also cringed when I heard him talk about some plan to reshape the Muslim world. That one really made me uneasy.

6. Oh get off it
Do you really believe that Lieberman feels blacks are retarded or something?

This is ridiculous.

If you're offended by a slip like that you must spend most of your waking hours offended.

7. I would think he was referring to disabled people as a minority but
perhaps you are correct.

8. He first said 'education'
which, I thought, was a good answer (and I do not like Joe Lieberman). At some later point he mentioned special education, which is also important, no matter what race one calls its own.

I thought we were going to try to be more civil....

9. One could also consider the disable minorities as well.
This statement doesn't assume that minorities necessarily means racial minorities.
