So where is Ashcroft?
Has anyone else noticed that Guilianni and McCain seem to be all over the place but Ashcroft has not been active in the campaign publicly recently?

Which is most logical?

-Ashcroft has decided he cannot support the right wing agenda of Bush-Cheney 04.

-Ashcroft has decided he cannot support the left wing agenda of Bush-Cheney 04.

-Ashcroft is an asshole, everyone knows it, and he is in hiding until after the election.

1. no, they are hiding him
because they don't want to remind voters of the Patriot Act and other atrocities to civil rights that this fool has imposed. Remember the attempt to get medical records of women who had third term abortions? They gotta hide him.

3. They also put blacks out on TV
and hide the real people in the party. Ashcroft is really scary and I bet even to Republicans. They do not want Bob Barr out there anymore saying how bad the act is.

4. Number Three, of course
Asscrack was the payoff to the fundies, an AG so thoroughly corrupt he would let all sorts of corporate and congressional malfeasance slide into obscurity while pushing all sorts of reactionary social agendas through the judiciary. He's easily the WORST AG this country has ever been cursed with, and we've had some real dillies.

Bushco really needs to keep him silent and hidden right now. Bribery, embezzlement, and even treason are fine with him, just make sure them damn women have them damn babies! He's why the FBI went public with their story of an Israeli spy in Feith and Wolfowitz's office. They knew this monstrosity of an AG would bury it, make it just go away. He's why the Plame investigation hasn't gotten anywhere. He's why the anthrax mailings are still unsolved.

Bushco knows he's their greatest liability, even worse then Cheney or Rumsfeld.

5. Ashcroft does not come across as charming or smart or human.
So he generally doesn't get a lot of face time during a campaign. He reminds everyone of their ornery uncle that used to scowl at them for making too much noise or for breathing too loudly. . . he's creepy. And if they need to do any fear-mongering, they have Cheney for that.

9. Ashcroft's role
has been truncated after disastrous attempts to take the kind of national leadership even an under siege Reno took. Big things like scares were fiascoes, little things were made really small.

Yet he is their ace in the hole to keep the law at bay and turn it against Democrats as we have been seeing and shall see more as the FBI is sicked on Democratic voters and organizations. Small ways as a signal, but poised to do maybe some big dirty work as he would have loved to do to contest his defeat in Missouri before they shut him up there.

Since then he has always been shut up and progressively silenced as the election draws near.

Yet that horror show is still there and the law hobbles on against us. the slower they go on their important cases the better anyway, assuming Kerry will restore the prosecutorial integrity of the justice system.
