After two debates the "low expectations" game is innapropriate.
Before the first debate it was a viable strategy. However, if at this point you're still trumpetting your low expectations you're basically implying that this is taking into account Kerry's performance in the debates to date.

In other words, you're sending the message that you think he tanked, whether you actually say so or not.

Knock it off folks. Really.

5. Posts have started cropping up...
...about how Bush is going to be amazing in the last debate... how he's going to hit a homerun, how Kerry should be shaking in his boots basically.

This type of thing was spread around before the first debate to set low expectations for Kerry, so that when people saw how he actually performed it would exceed all their expectations and even more greatly impress.

It isn't an appropriate tactic for the third debate in a series, for the reasons already mentioned.

10. Now I see.
There is no way that Fuckface will beat Kerry in the last debate. The chances aren't slim. The chances are ZERO. Kerry runs circles aruond him regardless of how many times they face off.

2. I agree. The fact is, it not a matter of expectations anymore
It's a matter of necessity: Bush NEEDS to hit a grand slam if he's to have any hope of reversing his slide.

Bush HAS TO have a decisive win. Anything short of that, he's failed.

3. We have 22 days left - this last debate is important
but maybe not as important as what comes out in the media between now and then. The "true believers" are not going to change their minds. The undecideds are definitely leaning Kerry.

6. The low expectations game we've been playing is a GAME
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 01:31 PM by rocknation
If you're referring to the threads in which DU-ers heave "predicted" that Bush would crush Kerry like a grape because he's so obviously the superior orator, that's partly a joke and partly a good luck charm--nothing more. Besides (and at the risk of sounding a six-year-old), Kerry started it when he himself called Bush a master debater on The Daily Show.

However, since the subject of the final debate will be the economy, I have to admit that my own attitude has shifted from "I hope he does all right" to "HE'D BETTER NOT SCREW THIS UP!"

7. Why can't we start to debate the truth quotient of Bush's spew?
I believe we need to hit the TRUTH required button. If aWol can't at least speak the truth how can he deal with it? IE Will shrub admit the American public is worse off now than when he started his watch? He has to.

8. It's one we shouldn't be playing at this point in time.
Anyone who has been paying attention knows that the most inconvenient things that are said on this forum have at times made their way into the mainstream media.

All we need is for someone to pick up on these posts and run a story on how even the "fervent faithful at the website Democratic Underground have no confidence in Kerry's ability to defeat George Bush in the final debate! Guess that tells us how they really think he did in the first two..."

Doesn't matter whether the posts are meant seriously or not (and of course WE know they're not), that's how they'll be treated if they get picked up.

9. Beat this drum
Unless Bush admits that wages are down how can he lead us to prosperity?

Unless Bush admits the War in Iraq is a fiasco how can he lead us to success?

Unless bush quits blindly pandering to Corporate interests what hope is there for the people of our great country?
