Normalized Gallup poll results for debate
Here's my back-of-the-napkin normalization. Bringing dem and ind #'s polled up to # of republicans provides a total # polled to 588.

Normalized debate results are (rounded): 50% Kerry, 43% Bush, 7% Tie

Moves Kerry from winning by 2% to 7%!!!

Based on polling data from:

1. And that assumes an equal # of repubs and dems
which may have been true in 2000, but I bet it's not any more. I still won't be surprised if this election is a landslide in Kerry's favor (which isn't to say that the work is over!)

2. Actually, in 2000 it was 39% Dems and 35% Repubs
