How can Bush possibly be gaining ground after these two debates?
Rasmussen has Bush up 50-46
ABC news tracking poll gives Bush a 51-46 lead!!

Thank God for Zogby which has Kerry up by three
http://www.zogby.com

Something is pretty weird if Bush is gaining after two spectacularly weak debates.

8. Buck Up!
Rasmussen is notoriously inaccurate. Ruy Tiexiera noted that over the last four or five presidential elections, Rasumussen has been off by an average of something like eight points. The original article is somewhere in the archives at the Donkey Rising blog, but I can't find it.

2. Rasmussen is a conservative polling company
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 11:23 AM by BareKnuckledLiberal
Their methods and polls are notoriously biased, but they are useful because the bias is fairly constant. Subtract about three points from the more conservative candidate and tack it on to the more liberal one, and you have the accurate figure.

Zogby is the best of the large polling outfits. He's a Republican himself, but he's scrupulously bias-free. Which means he's probably going to be excommunicated soon.

16. Zogby's a registered Democrat
No idea how he voted in 2000. But his polls are pretty bias-free.

24. difference is that....
a democrat pollster would be honest about his results, regardless of what they show.
a GOP pollster would lie and skew his results to favor his agenda.

25. Really?
"Well, blow me down!" as Popeye would say.

He used to be Republican, and has been considered somewhat Conservative as well. His brother, James, is a Republican party hack in Pennsylvania.

Interesting info, that ... thanks for the heads-up!

7. the power of incumbency
weird as that is, accounts for some of it. And we view things through the prism of our own biases. I saw a stupid, shrill dangerous man vs. a thoughtful, strong leader. Others clearly saw it differently. This is a close race. I have yet to see evidence that either candidate is pulling away.

9. The only poll that matters will be on November 2nd...
Until then, send your donations to JFK's legal fund to contest the "selection" of * which is sure to happen...Even if it is what I expect to be a landslide (electorally" for Kerry.

10. Don't buy it. Seriously.
Skewing the polls is probably the only way to keep the repug morale up at this point.

11. Listen, I don't believe in the polls but the media does
and they are spewing the results of these polls night and day. And that can impact voter turnout and we need every single voter we can get out there and voting. We don't need them thinking that * is going to win and that there's no use in them voting and that's what the media is doing, in effect, by reporting these poll results. That's why polls-even the inaccurate ones--matter.

15. This might be a naive or possibly arrogant statement, but...
I don't think that the majority of people who bother to seek out such information are so easily defeated. It's not like these things are posted independently of editorials and election news. And people who are willing to bag the whole thing based on a poll, well -then it's just an excuse.

26. Here me now, and believe me laytah!
If voter turnout is less than 50%, we could be in trouble. When turnout is high, dems ALWAYS WIN! REPUGS ALWAYS LOSE! I see us getting 60% turnout. Do you think we'll have a low turnout? I didn't think so.

So, pick yourself up by your lovehandles and carry yourself out to the polls!
