Sinclair Story a diversion?
Bloggers, petitioners, all these "internets" are going after Sinclair.

What could Rove and Hughes be up to? Hmmmmmmmm . . .

5. This is not as big a deal as everyone thinks.
Most Sinclair stations are affiliated with Fox, UPN or the WB.

So, a lot of Fox watching wing-nuts and 14 year old girls will see a propaganda film.

7. Ohio
In Columbus, Sinclair owns the ABC affiliate. If Bush wins, they might well end up owning ALL of the local stations.

9. This is a good reason to dump Sinclair stock
On another thread a poster suggested that we all check our pension plans, IRAs, mutual funds, etc. If we own Sinclair stock, sell it.

According to yet a third thread, people are already doing this. Sinclair stock is dropping steadily today.

Take a loss for the cause. Dump Sinclair. Money is the only thing that matters to these pukes.

11. They own 24% of the market.
I wish people would stop dismissing EVERYTHING that comes out... This is a MAJOR issue. They own ALL TYPES of stations.

14. Just read some background at Yahoo! Markets
Of their sixty-two stations, nearly fifty of them are Fox, WB and UPN. They only have a dozen or so on the big three networks. Given their average ratings (and the fact that they're only viewed in 25% of the U.S. marketplace), I'm guessing that the total viewing audience will be about 1-2 million drooling dittoheads. I'm not worried -- but that doesn't mean that people in those markets shouldn't raise hell with local advertisers.

21. I'm not sure that's the point.
The point is we've taken all we can stand and were mad as hell about it!

That's a funny comment. I got an image of a bunch of ghoulish Cheney look a likes salivating at the TV and a gaggle of teen age girls staring at the TV and saying "Whatever! I want my Dawson's Creek!"

13. Its a big deal, no doubt
but didn't they know it would be a big deal?

who benefits from the big deal?

So Sinclair Stock drops for a few days, the movie is cancelled, a new issue arises.

What is to gain by going through the motions.

Do you believe this film was ever going to air? I don't.

15. Nice to see that those of you that
spend all day posting are always ready to correct anyone else's opinion. I'll expand my point just for you.

People get angry when a network affiliate preempts a regularly scheduled show and don't usually watch the "special presentation".

Anyone likely to tune in to specifically see this film(sic), will be a * supporter looking for reinforcement. Most others will get disgusted and change the channel (the technology is available).

There, now I'm one more post closer to legitimacy.

16. Could just be a publicity stunt for the movie...
...Sinclair will eventually back down, but meanwhile the movie trailer itself gets played, time and time again, as a "news story".

19. I don't think that they will back down
they didn't with the Nightline thing back in April of this year. And it is very much a big deal because they own stations in key battleground states and because they do reach 1/4th of the electorate through their stations--no matter how bad their ratings. Besides, this will no doubt get local media coverage from the newspapers and people will tune in to see what all the fuss is about.

22. I don't work for sinclair, nor
am I trying to CREATE a diversion - just don't want to be blindsided by the Rovian trickster.

I've sent my emails to Sinclair, FCC, and a senator. Just trying to keep things in perspective.

I really don't think they were or are going to show this film. Just my opinion.

If they stop, F911 loses. If they go forward, F911 gains access? Right?

20. it is a BIG deal
Sinclair planted fake reporters on the news 'reporting' Bush propaganda, censored Nightline's reading of the names of "the fallen" US soldiers in Iraq. Mark Hyman's "The Point" has been airing segments as vicious as any 'swift-boat' ad, calling Kerry a liar, calling anti-war people "America haters" who are connected to communists etc. etc. The Republicans are getting enormous amounts of free air time through Sinclair.
"The Point" is aired as part of my local news. It is absolutely despicable! Sinclair reaches 1/4 of the market. It is a huge deal !!!
:argh:
