FOX just brought up Kerry's book "The New Soldier"
Sounds as if they plan to use it to smear him, since they're alleging it's similar to his statements before Congress. I'm not familiar with this book at all, but from what they said, it sounds like a collection of other soldiers' personal stories that he edited and/or wrote the introduction for. They quoted just a few words from his introduction, about how he and his fellow vets went to Nam thinking they were fighting communism, but instead found themselves killing women and children.

Their reporter said the book is very hard to find, and that supposedly Kerry bought up all copies he could locate, though Kerry's spokespeople are saying it's rare only because it's been out of print for so long.

This was the first time I'd seen a story on the book. Another of Rove's October surprises?

FOX also had a piece on the ABC memo Mark Halperin wrote, the one Drudge has been trying to turn into a controversy for the last several days. First time I'd caught a story about that on any of the news channels.

What would we do without "fair and balanced" FAUX news?

1. I don't have a particular problem with that.
If the book really deals with the fact that the soldiers were told they were fighting Communists (terrorists) and they realized, afterwards, that all they were doing was killing Vietnamese (Iraqi) civilians, and Kerry is painted as one of the soldiers that spoke out against the government's lies about that war. . . I think even the dimmest bulbs out there will be able to put the parallel together.

Bring it on!

6. I don't have a problem with it, either, if
people can find the book and read it for themselves. But if it's as rare as the story says, the wingnuts can use selective quotes to misrepresent it, the way they've carefully edited Kerry's Congressional testimony for the Swift Liar ads.

2. daily rove media talking points
I would imagine these assholes are reading from a Karl Rove Script for media reporting in the weeks leading up to the election. He probably sends them daily talking points.

4. If it's out of print Kerry should have the publisher release it on the net
Free for everyone to download. That should put the "he bought up all the copies" lie to rest.

8. I think it's already on many of the "internets."
A few months ago, some freeper posted the entire book for everyone to read... I'll search around for the link.

11. Thanks - as long as it hasn't been edited - I'd rather see it officially
released with Kerry saying "I've approved this, feel free to download".
Maybe from his site. Good PR.

10. You can read the book on the interent. Honestly, it's not that bad.
Mostly it is eyewitness testimony from soldiers. I cannot see how first hand stories of soldiers, about a war where most people accept that soldiers were asked to do bad things or went crazy and did them, is going to hurt Kerry. It is a touching book.

13. It's a pretty good book
If the wingnuts think this will bury Kerry, they're fools.

And it can be found in free PDF download on a few anti-Kerry sites. For some reason, they think it will kill his campaign. Obviously, they didn't read it.

14. They're setting the foundation
for the Bob Dornan video. I'm growing more sure of it every day. Between the Sinclair movie, and Rove's growing threats of an "October Surprise."

Can someone e-mail Josh Marshall or dailyKos and ask them to look into the Dornan story?

18. Yes it has been mentioned here quite a bit
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 02:51 PM by indyjones1938
Bob Dornan is a rightwing extremist who claims to have a video from an anti-war rally in the 1970s showing a young John Kerry urinating on and then burning an American flag.

Apparently he has shown the video to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

There are many reasons to believe that the video doesn't really exist. One of course is that Dornan himself is a nutjob and has no credibility (http://www.realchange.org/dornan.htm). And if the film really existed, it probably would've come out long ago in one of JK's congressional or senate runs.

So it's either fake Rove psyops or the torpedo that could sink KE04. Take your pick.

21. More bullshit from Fox this AM
Some twit I was watching said the book was hard to find because the Kerry campaign was buying them up to get it off the shelves. Can Fox sink any lower?
