Makers of Fine Beverages-
First off, I really like Pepsi. I go out of my way to make sure that the cola I am drinking is, in fact, a Pepsi-Cola. I much prefer it to Coca-Cola and, as it happens, I also vastly prefer Sierra Mist (formerly Slice) to Spirt and 7-Up. I drink what is probably an unhealthy amount of Pepsi each day, and I don't mind doing it one bit.
However, there are things I love more than my caffinated soft drink of choice. One of them is my country. Another is honesty. And so, like many of my other politically charged friends in that coveted 18-25 demographic, I am joining in the boycott of Sinclair Broadcasting, and by extension anyone who advertises with them or invests in them. I was highly disappointed to notice that Pepsico was on that list.
You see, Sinclair Broadcasting has decided to force its affiliates to pre-empt their normal programming in order to run a very biased, politically slanted movie slandering John Kerry. It is concerned with his war record, and it is riddled with innaccuracies, distortions, and just out-and-out lies. Sinclair Broadcasting is putting this on the air 2 weeks before the Presidential election.
Their Public Relations Vice President has insisted that it's simply a news piece (and has compared it to reporting car bombings and economic news on their daily broadcast). It's kind of hard to believe that sort of rhetoric when 96% of all Sinclair campaign contributions go to GOP candidates, and when the very VP that made these commends runs an editortial that attacks John Kerry's war record on a near-weekly basis.
So now you know my reasons. And I'm standing by them. Bluntly put, I will have nothing to do with ANYONE handing these political shills so much as a single dime. And if that includes the makers of my beloved Pepsi, well, so be it. But as a loyal consumer, I must urge you to tell Sinclair that you won't have anything to do with THEM if they insist on such partisan, politically biased activities.
