President Kerry can do one thing to retaliate for this Sinclair thing
He can appoint an FCC commissioner that will reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and the pre-Reagan media ownership limits.

This will mean the end of Sinclair, Clear Channel, Cumulus, all the right-wing media conglomerates. It will mean the end of the Clinton's Cock Network. It will shutter Fox News. It will take the Pigboy, Hannity, Coulter, Ingraham, all those reich-wing talking heads, off the air once and for all.

And I won't feel the least bit sad.

2. Not quite that easy
It will require that WE, as the public, keep CONTINUAL pressure on them.
Kerry will most likely be dealing with a hostile congress that will battle a position like this at every turn. If he's willing to step up on this issue, then we need to be at his back.

3. He'll be dealing with a partially-hostile Congress
However, I don't think all of the Republicans in Congress are DeLays--ideologues who will commit seppuku or fly a plane into a bridge if Bush asked them to. I am betting that at least some of them are thinking, "we have to maintain party discipline, but party discipline is what allowed Bush to fuck us royally; how in hell can we rescue our party from this?"

I know Chaffee and Snowe are at least partially on our side.

I also think we'll go into January with at least the Senate in Democratic hands. The House probably won't be; Tom DeLay saw to that. You can't redistrict a Senate seat, and this will work in our favor.

4. I prefer an old-fasioned Nixonian IRS audit
And place of a few of the aforementioned talk show hosts on the government "Do Not Fly List". The Patriot Act, which they support, allows it.
