I think Chimpy will suffer a backlash over Chris Reeve's death
the vast majority of Americans approve of stem cell research.

Who is this stupid bastard to deny us?

He uses religion like he uses his wife -- as a wall to hide behind when he's not man enough to face the people.

1. I'm thinking the same thing.
First Reagan, now Superman. While the research wouldn't have been in time to save either of them, they are examples of people we will continue to lose prematurely -- not that those who have loved ones who could benefit from stem cell therapy need any convincing. But so many people don't give a damn until it affects THEM! For those people, losing a beloved celebrity may be enough to open their eyes.

2. I can't help myself here
but Chris Rock, in "Bigger and Blacker", told a joke:

"What's the world coming to??? Superman can't walk. What's next? AquaMan will drown? the Hulk will come down with gout?"

Sorry if this offends anyone.

But since his death, I keep thinking about that.

5. Oh, c'mon, CatWoman.
Rethugs who loved Reagan and who love Bush, couldn't care less about stem cell research.

For the most part, we're talking about people who only have empathy for a relative or friend who may be suffering from some disease that stem cell research could help alleviate.

In my experience, most Republicans that I know vote the way they do because they're either wealthy, stupid, or because there's no way in the world that they're ever going to understand the way that Karl Rove is manipulating their emotions.

While I agree with everything you say, what sticks in my mind more than anything else is H. L. Mencken's statement that, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

However, I would love to see the world you dream about become a reality.

8. After her mourning, perhaps Reeve's widow will do some speaking
That could help. Kerry can't be seen trying to exploit his death. That means Kerry's got to keep it non-political. Reeve's wife can change that.

9. I've heard her on Stern. He adores her. And she likes him. Bet after
a bit of mourning, she will step up for Chris. A noble soul.

10. I mourn his passing, but I hope his death brings about some good.
And I think, from everything I've seen of him -- what courage! -- that he would hope his death would bring about change, if his life could not.

God bless you, Mr. Reeve, and welcome you home. You were a true Superman.
