Cool beans! My LTTE is being published |
|
now before you get too excited, it's only in the Tulsa World, which endorsed * yesterday. I was so mad I wrote this letter and with lots of good editing help from DUers, emailed it to them last night. They called today to confirm!
So, while it may be a lost cause here in Oklahoma, it sure made me feel better!
Editor, Tulsa World October 10, 2004
I am angry and disgusted by the direction the current administration has taken in attempting to lead our country. We find ourselves in a quagmire of violence in a country that did not ask to be occupied by a foreign power, evil dictator or not. The very fabric of our country is unraveling. Religious ideologies are being crammed down our throats, disguised as political policy. The people have been silenced by the mind-numbing sound bites of television, by fear and by the media monopolies that toe this administration’s party line. The Bush administration thinks nothing of lying in order to further its policies, treats the world as its very own plaything, stands as the only superpower in the world and acts like the neighborhood bully. I am voting for John Kerry because he is a man of integrity and intelligence and because I believe that our country will descend further into the hell created by this administration should George W. Bush remain in office. It is however, tempting to give Bush another term in which he can be held accountable for the havoc he has created. Another term where he can show the world and the American people the real “man” behind his mask of “compassionate conservatism.” Four more years….to convince the American people that lying, corporate fascism, Machiavellian politics, government secrecy, and the erosion of our basic liberties are NOT in our best interests. If it weren’t so horrifying to contemplate the ultimate destruction of our country, I might just give in to this temptation and follow the Tulsa World's endorsement of George W. Bush.

1. If you can, try to visit Missouri to help the Kerry campaign. |
|
or telephone canvass for some swing state. Don't waste time and energy on a lost cause. I live in Southern Ohio and many Ky Dems are over here helping out.

3. You know, Olddem, it's incredibly frustrating to live |
|
in a state ignored by both candidates because one of them has the votes sewn up. As much as I'd like to go to Missouri, I do what I can right here in my own state. We do have democrats/progressives/liberals here and it feels important for those of us stuck here to at least know that we are not alone.

If nothing else, you'll shake em up in Tulsa! I'd love to see the look on the average Repug's face there when they get to "corporate fascism". They might pop a blood vessel.

5. Good for you! Great job. |

Don't just give up. I live in a state supposedly solidly in the bush* column. Ya know what? I haven't seen a bush*/Cheney bumper sticker for miles and miles. LTTE are solidly for Kerry/Edwards. The few LTTE for bush* are pretty lame and make no arguement at all.
I suspect there will be some surprised faces come Nov 3.
Do not concede any ground anywhere in the nation just because some media outlet announced your state is going bush*. Don't let up and NEVER give up.
Again, you did great. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and joining the fight! :toast:

It is not a matter of "if" the country will turn to the Democrats, it is only a matter of when. If this year, then perhaps we can salvage what was left to us to leave to our children. If not now, then I fear that we will be in for a multitude of sorrows.

Glad to see you trimmed it down.
And, I try to write one or two per week - had one published in the Hartford Courant a month ago, and seem to get one in my local weekly paper every time.
We need as many letters as possible.
Oops - mine just got into the weekly again:
Emperor's Clothes After watching the first presidential debate, it seems obvious that the Emperor has no clothes. George W. Bush does not have the intellectual capacity to lead this country. The foreign policy debate was supposed to be Bush's strong point, yet it was John Kerry who was strong, assured, confident and in command of the facts. George W. Bush continually talked about "hard work" while repeatedly trying to drink from an empty glass. The bottom line is that John Kerry looked presidential while George Bush looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

A friend said that no repug would even know what Machiavellian meant, or if they did, take it as a compliment :)
I may, just may, get some major shit from family, but it's worth it.

Good for you getting your letter published! At one point, California was considered a Republican state, too. Things change when people speak up.
It's interesting that this angle of voting for Bush so he will have to fix his mess has come up. I saw an editorial in the LA Times saying essentially the same thing. I have a friend in the conservative California Central Valley who told me that same idea months ago as to why she should vote for Bush .
This isn't an idea that has just occurred to people - its been generated by the Repub party.

I've voiced similar sentiments as you've made in the last paragraph.
Bush would be held accountable in a 2nd term...as all the crows are coming home to roost. I'd almost prefer that to a razor thin win for Kerry that keeps Congress in Republicans hands. In this scenario, they will obstruct, investigate Democrats (Clinton redux?) and move the blame to JK/JE.
I say almost because the stakes with the Supreme Court are even more ominous if Bush is reselected again.
If it's not a crime to vacation 42% of your 1st 9 months in office, disregarding the 9/11 warnings, allowing 3,000 innocent Americans to be murdered, then start an all together unrelated war based on lies -instead of winning the fight on the true sources of terror ($). The actions and non-actions of this administration has cost the country-
(1) A Trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000.00) (2) Tens of thousands of American causalties....for what? (3) Tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi lives...for what?Destabilizing and desecularizing their society? Religious authoritarianism is not democracy. (4) 3,000 Dead on 9/11/01....and not one person brought to justice and held accountable. (5) Trillions lost to our economy.
What's the threshold for justifying criminal prosecution and impeachment?

12. I think it's good to write to these kind of papers |

If it were a liberal-leaning paper, you'd be mainly preaching to the choir. The people who read your letter are people who NEED to read it. Great job.
