Is the Sinclair Flap the Repub's October Surprise?
Or are there other dirty tricks out there that they're planning to unleash? What could they be planning? Is it possible that anything they might have planned at this late stage might simply backfire in their faces? If so, what should we be planning in retaliation, especially when the media is firmly on their side?

is for chimpy and crashcart to step aside and let McCain run.

3. When does anything "backfire" on Republicans? They control everything!
Edited on Mon Oct-11-04 07:20 PM by Democat
Republicans are the experts on dirty tricks and crimes and the backlash that some DUers have been waiting for hasn't come yet.

If there was no backlash against the Swift Liars, there will probably be no backlash against this.

In fact, the entire media will probably run with this story for at least a week, maybe two - it is already pushing Reeve's death out of the news.

This is the Swift Liars part two and we know what the first part did to Kerry's campaign. They better have a strategy to deal with this because it's about to get bigger and meaner.

4. There is already a huge backlash against SBG!
Look at the banner on DU, here's the thread:

Investors are pissed and selling off their stock:

Websites are up, there are all kinds of boycotts going on. No way this is going to turn out like the Swift Boat Liars.

5. If it is, it's pretty pathetic
I mean, I guarantee you most people around here have heard nothing about it and/or it doesn't even affect them. We don't even have a Sinclair owned station in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Poor San Antonio does, though.

6. To add
I thought the October Surprise would be something MUCH bigger, much more immediately headline-grabbing, OHMYGOD!, you know?

7. I hope so
If this is the best they've got, Kerry should start hiring decorators for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

8. Well, there could be others, but this is part of it.
This is a big deal...and its clever.

The media will cover it not because of the documentary content, but because of the unprecedented nature of what Sinclair has done.

Which is free publicity via the news for the docu...getting people interested in it.

Then, pow, expect a barrage of ads after it to reinforce the Kerry-Traitor message.

Interesting to see how this will play in the debate this week....supposed to be domestic issues...but bet Bush is going to do some sort of tie-in.

Of course it could be anything. We are talking about people who have access to "the button" (or "the football" for those West Wing people here)

11. Not The Message, Just The Messenger
We don't know what's in this program yet. The Kerry campaign should demand a pre-screening.
