Wore my Kerry shirt to Walgreen's tonight, and
I got a "love your T-shirt!" from the 20-something male cashier. We talked a bit, and he said he and ALL his friends, male and female alike, are all registered and are all going to vote for Kerry. I said that was great, because if Bush won, they were all facing the draft. He said, "We know!"

I have to say I have not met many apathetic kids in their teens and twenties. They are all pissed and all fired up.

1.  I over heard a man at the ACME today. He said he had
worked there, in produce, 17 years ago, full time, but went into business for himself for 17 years, lost the business and is now back at ACME part time and really only for the benefits - yeah, that's job creation for ya. I couldn't resist walking past and asking who he was voting for! You know the answer, I don't have to tell you.

2. saw a little old lady on the train
with a button that read "Asses of evil: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft" pinned to the front of the neck of her turtleneck. Struck up a conversation and she said she's been voting Democratic since FDR!

3. Wore my "Worst. President. Ever." T-shirt
. . . a couple of weekends ago and got amazing response, mostly from young people. The young Filipina girl at my dry cleaners had just seen "Farenheit 9/11" and said it made her so angry. I told her to be sure to vote -- she said he would, her first time!

10. My son has that shirt!
It is very popular in middle school, too. Considering we're in Texas I thought he might catch some flak for wearing it, but, no. :toast: Actually, he gets a kick out of the other students wandering around the halls repeating the saying using the Simpsons' character's voice!

No one said anything, but the cashier was mighty cheerful and friendly!

And I agree with you, Nay. These kids aren't apathetic at all. They can't wait to vote for Kerry.

5. They might not be apathetic, but
they're not getting involved enough. As I traveled down to OH this weekend to canvas none of my friends would go b/c of our local octoberfest. That was fairly dissapointing.

6. Thanks for canvassing.
You're doing the work that needs to be done!

I'm going to a swing state shortly. So is a dear friend of mine.

8. Welcome to DU and thank you for your work!
There are many young posters on DU who have been very active in the campaign. My 21 year old is not canvassing, but he is coming home from Pittsburgh to vote that day because he feels very strongly about it. His friends are all going home from college that day to make sure that their vote counts. Univ. of Pittsburgh is giving their students the time off to vote.

When I was in college (way back in the dark ages) NO ONE bothered to vote. Times, they are a-changing.

Keep the faith! Thanks again for you work for the campaign.

11. You know, some of my friends have disappointed me too with their
unwillingness to volunteer, and they're in their 40's and 50's!

My one friend complains loudly and fervently about Bush every time I talk to her. When I called her to ask her to be a poll worker on Election Day, she said no. Go figure.

19. You'd think everyone would want to be part of ' history in the making '
The overthrow of a tyrannical , unelected Government .

I wish I could help , but I'm a Brit. living in the UK , so all I can do is talk and write about how evil Bush is .

9. I'm very happy at the number
of Kerry signs I see in the yards around REPUBLICAN Knoxville, TN.
I'm guessing the city goes Kerry, the county goes Bush, which means the whole county will go Bush, but it's still a start in such a Republican area.

13. I was in Walgreen's yesterday
filling my prescription. When I paid my co-pay, the pharmacist said if I didn't have insurance my prescription would have cost about $110!

I said, 'How in the world do elderly or uninsured people pay those prices?' She said that there are many elderly that spend up to $700 per month on their prescriptions--out of their pockets.

I said (so the whole store could hear me) it's TIME FOR A NEW PRESIDENT! The pharmacist and the pharmacy clerk looked at me and shook their heads YES!

18. Since I'm one of those millions of workers without insurance
I always make sure I mention this to the pharmacist/doctor/pharm tech/doctor's receptionist. They always ask if you have insurance, I can't just say no, can I?

The doctor's office and pharmacy people get lots of people who have no insurance. They're all on our side of the issue. My doc has been giving me free samples so my drug costs are lower.

It would make a good bumper sticker: Worker Without Insurance for Kerry/Edwards.
