This One Issue, Could Swing Florida....Need Help from DU!!
Sorry everyone, I haven't been on my game lately...suffering from Post-Ivan Distress Disorder I guess. Plus I pulled my damn back helping a friend clean up his property...

This one issue however may swing Florida and a yea or nay, especially a nay needs to be shouted from every damaged roof-top from Pensacola to Miami.

Seems that Jeb has put his brother under the political gun here....
If Bush says yes to this it may add ammunition to the battle lawyers are about to wage with the insurance companies...do the hurricane events be considered as one disaster for this state and provide the economic relief to seniors who are facing double or even triple deductibles or does Bush side with the INSURANCE INDUSTRY?

"4-as-1 storm label will save state money
Feds urged to pay 90 percent of cleanup

By By Paul Flemming
The News-Press Tallahassee Bureau
Published by news-press.com on October 7, 2004"

TALLAHASSEE — Convincing the federal government that Florida’s four hurricanes should be considered one catastrophic event is a key to getting the feds to bump up its portion of public assistance costs. It’s a distinction that means at least $255 million to county and city governments.

Gov. Jeb Bush on Tuesday formally requested the federal government pick up a greater share of hurricane relief. The answer from his brother, the president, could save Florida more than $112 million and even more for county and city governments."

Here is the key statement:

"FEMA officials did not return phone calls Wednesday on when a decision might be expected. DiPietre said there was no deadline for a response."

HELP ME TRACK THIS DU, NO RESPONSE BY NOVEMBER 2nd may be interpreted down here as a BIG NO and another prime example of the Neo-Cons siding with Corporate America......

2. I searched today....
Non of the Conservative Papers or Media in the state are reporting further on this issue...I think they are trying to keep it off of the political radar...

3. Look for the criminals to hold
off any decision until after the election. If bushy-it wins Florida gets the money. If he loses they get told to go to hell..

4. Obligatory defeatist post
No way we can win Florida what with Diebold and Jeb running the show. It can't happen. Kerry would have to win by 1,000,000 votes to even have a PRAYER.

(sarcasm off)

Sorry, buddy no takers here......

And if I ever read a "Obligatory defeatist post" if was the one you just posted.

P.S. I don't think the Kerry Campaign is going to write off Florida so neither am I.....

6. S-A-R-C-A-S-M
Just about every time someone starts a thread that's postive toward Florida, some defeatist ninny comes in and says "foreget about it" because of Jeb, Diebold, Katherine Harris or some such.

I was merely adding one reply like that to keep up with tradition. I think Kerry will win Florida by 4 percentage points. In light of 2000, that's a comfortable win.

So relax.

fan that damn Patriot Icon has me a little edgy....congrats on the 19 game winning streak however....

If your looking for a deal...damaged Condos and a Running-Back named Williams could be a steal down here right now....

9. This is an important issue. The rest of the country doesn't have
any idea what Floridians are having to endure. My parents got hit twice--a double deductible. They are senior citizens struggling to get by.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention; hope you get over your PIDD soon!

when the towers were felled a few days after the new owner took possession...the insurance company wnted to count the damaged towers as once instance and the owner wanted to count the towers' collapses as two separate instances...

14. WTC leaseholder Silverstein lost. It was ruled one event/attack
and rightly so IMHO.

11. Not sure that carries over...
If the federal gov't declares it to be one catastrophic event, I don't know that it carries any weight with the insurance industry - I thought that was mainly for FEMA assistance, not to reduce the insurance deductables. I haven't followed the story much, though.

The insurance companies were pretty clear after the second hit that we were talking about deductables for EACH event, despite hurricanes hitting just weeks apart, etc.

if the Federal Government considers this as one event, it will set a precident...

The insurance industry is sure to raise hell over this one......

12. Just my educated guess, Florida will not be the state that will go nuts
this year. I say look to Ohio or Penn. If at all. I do think * will not be in a hurry to help Fl. he didn't help Ca. at all a couple of yrs ago.

15. I heard this from my cousin just after Ivan. Her son lives near
Orlando and his house was damaged by both Hurrucanes, and his ins co notified him they would owe the 2 deductibles. I've told several people about this, and everyone agrees that it's a very unfair decision.
