Kerry 49-48 Lead Over Bush in New Gallup Poll!!!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041011/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_poll

WASHINGTON (AFP) - John Kerry (news - web sites) has overcome a 14-point deficit in a new opinion poll showing the Democratic White House hopeful in a statistical dead heat with President George W. Bush.

The USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll gives Kerry a 49 to 48 percent lead over Bush among likely voters three weeks before the November 2 presidential election. A prior poll had given Bush a 54 to 40 percent edge in mid-September.

A majority of Americans polled, 49 percent, say they disapprove of the way Bush is handling the presidency, while 47 percent say they approve. In late September, 54 percent approved of Bush's handling of the job.

Kerry beats Bush on honesty (44 to 42 percent) and on which contender expresses himself more clearly (57 to 38 percent).

Still, 56 percent say Bush is a strong and decisive leader, while only 38 percent believe Kerry is a better leader.

4. It may even be better.
Remember, Gallup is a Bush leaning poll group and they do what they can to push their guy. To admit to a one point lead by Kerry could very well mean that the lead is greater and that one point was a very difficult thing to admit, let alone a possible wider margin.

6. Great to see any poll with Kerry in the lead - even Gallup
Next thing you know, Kerry could be 14 points ahead due to the trend. :-) Probably wouldn't be believable, but I'd love seeing the people on the cable channels squirm.

18. I believe Nader is on the ballot in less than half the states... n/t
He won't be a factor this time, not with 1% of the vote.

20. Nah...
Figure most wingnuts will marry other wingnuts, and their kids'll be too stupid to figure out how to feed themselves. So, we just need to hold out another generation, and we're all set!

22. "Yesterday's Gallup Poll Had GOP Advantage - Once Again"
from Steve Soto at theleftcoaster.com (he's terrific at keeping up with Gallup internals)

"Yesterday, Gallup released a new poll for USA Today and CNN, which showed a tightened race in both of their registered voter (RV) and likely voter (LV) results. It turns out that the RV and LV results, showing a 49%-48% Kerry lead amongst LVs, and a 48%-48% tie amongst RVs, were once again based on samples that contained more Republicans than Democrats."

GOP had four-point advantage in RVs, two-points in RVs for poll released on Oct. 11.

AND KERRY IS AHEAD ANYWAY!

http://theleftcoaster.com/ (scroll down a little)

Also heard a talking head mention that most pollsters (not Zogby) under represent minority voters. Said they tend to include about a 12 percent sample, where Zogby has about 18 percent. Speculated that was one of the reasons Zogby was closer four years ago. Not sure where I saw this...
