5. They're Looking For An Out!!! Careful...
If they get an overwhelming no, this means "the viewers spoke"...not the company. Do we want them to weasel out this easy?

If anything, help this puppy along and take one for the team

10. Not That It's Going To Air Or Not
One way or another, whatever RoveCo. wants out in this slander job will get out...internet or whatever.

Sinclair has been through the wringer today...publicly and financially. They're looking for a way to duck out of this mess before it take them down further. A "No" vote, not to show it let's them escape their own responsiblity and pass the buck on "viewers" or even blame us for spamming the polls.

There's more developing on this company and the last thing we want is them to be able to slither away from this. Honestly, how many people are gonna be swayed by anything these assholes do now? Either you believe or you don't. This is now calling their bluff and forcing their hand.

9. Yes. We do.
This is a distraction. The sooner it goes away, the better.

We can have the debate about the media and the fairness doctrine after the election.

13. There's More Developing Here
If they air this crap and don't offer equal or better treatment to Kerry, they're in a world of trouble, and they know it.

Sinclair overplayed and didn't expect the shitstorm that's hitting them. Now we can let them weasel out, or we can help them dig in deeper.

I don't want distractions either, but the root of this is how our public airwaves are being abused...it's bad enough this company has exploited it's employees and audience, let's not let them get away with anymore.

14. The logic here is escaping me
Why can't we take our win and go home, if this is their intent? The Freeps just high-fived and counted their victory with the Reagan/CBS thing. Seems like a pretty good plan.

15. Then Sinclair Does It Again???
They didn't give a rat's ass in cancelling Nightline. There's more at issue here. This isn't a network like a CBS or CNN...it's individual stations and licenses that can be revoked and challenged for what they're doing here. You can't charge the robber until he's robbed the bank.

Do I need explain more?

If Sinclair weasels out, we lose as creeps like Hyman and others will continue to slander and lie, local interests will be shut out of their own stations and the large corporations will be further emboldened to tell you what to think, buy, eat and crap.

Also by taking down Sinclair, we send one very chilling message through Mr. Rove's spine down through the Rushbone to all the radio stations airing hate spewers that they're being watched as well.

Now if them taking the poll, claiming it was YOU not them that decided...shirking responsibility, then whose really won here?

18. Customers should be the final authority in any business.
Your logic is a little complicated. I don't want them to air their propaganda, period. At least, not pre-emptively (familiar word) and days before the election. However, that goal is accomplished is fine by me.

22. I Know...I Wish Things Were Simple
The best way to say it here is we could win a battle and lose a war.

That's why I was hoping we'd set up an area here where this issue could be really explained.

There's two things going here:

1.) Yes, if there an overwhelming NO, Sinclair may not air it on their stations, but their justification won't be because of their action, and it doesn't explain why they forced this program on their stations on the first place, whose responsible for the decisions and if there were any considerations involved.

The company has been bombarded the past 24 hours with emails, phone calls and a devloping revolt by investors and stockholders. They want to slink away and here's the chance for them to do it.

2.) If this program airs and there's not equal time given to Kerry or an affiliated 527, then this is a clear violation of FEC and FCC rules and further action against the company and it's stations can start...if they don't air it, then no harm no foul.

This is a desperate move by a company that thought they could sneak this program on and worry about the consequences later. Someone leaked this out before it was supposed to and that's what's got Sinclair in a real bind. Letting them walk away kills all the pressure on them and those supporting them.

Also, there's another string here of an even larger scandal involving this company. They're running like the rats they are...I don't know about you, but instead of letting them run into their hole and hide, I wanna really go in after 'em.

24. Did you miss your meds tonight?
You're logic is both flawed and convoluted. I doubt that this online, unscientific poll is going to change what they do. They don't give a shit about doing the right thing, we all know that. It is somewhat interesting that they put up a poll at all about this. Not sure what they are after here.

28. See It From Where You Want To
If I had my perfect world, O'Neill would be forced to remove that rat's nest of a hairpiece and appologize on his knees in front of John Kerry and all the veterans and protestors who he's insulted with his crap.

It's not the poll, it's the results even...my bets are Sinclair has already decided NOT to air this thing and here's their way of getting out of all the heat, mostly from investors and other broadcasters, turned down and bailing on this fiasco.

They're taking this poll, which they know will be heavily visited by both DU'ers and MANY viewers (including a lot of Republicans) who see this as going over the top. Here's their way to back down, and try to make themselves look either like martyrs (if you're a wingnut) or "reasonable" in the media. They're neither and this absolves them from taking responsibility for the abuses of their licenses.

The company's stock...which is at 50% of the value it was in January, was under assault all day long. Be assured the phones rang off the hooks and the email boxes overflowed. Smith didn't expect this kind of backlash from our side or thought he could weather it out just like he did with cancelling Nightline.

I haven't and didn't advocate people voting YES. I'm just pointing out an endgame they're trying to pull.

Fortunately, I use them Canadian Meds...see how evil they are!!!

12. Done; but why would they bother, really?
They'll run it because they think it will affect the election; they don't care what people who vote in the poll think.

17. IMRadioactive is right!
Why in the world would they have a poll on their own website asking if they should run the documentary or not? It makes no sense until you realize they are running scared. The DNC will be filing a complaint with the FCC and stockholders are selling their shares. This is all over the news today. This portion of an article is from MarketWatch, you need an account to read the entire article, but it's free:

"The Democratic National Committee said Monday said it will file a complaint against Sinclair (SBGI: news, chart, profile) with the Federal Election Commission, accusing the network of making an "illegal in-kind contribution" to President Bush's campaign, according to a DNC news release.

"Stolen Honor" focuses on Kerry's 1971 antiwar testimony to Congress about U.S. atrocities and suggests that it hurt Americans who were still being held in Vietnam.

The Post report quoted Kerry's campaign spokesman, David Wade, as calling the documentary "lies" and "a smear."

Sinclair did not return calls for comment from CBS MarketWatch, but on its Web site it said, "The program has not been videotaped and the exact format of this unscripted event has not been finalized. Characterizations regarding the content are premature and are based on ill-informed sources."

"Stolen Honor" was made by Carlton Sherwood, a Vietnam veteran and former reporter for the Washington Times. On the Web site for the documentary, Sherwood told viewers, "Intended or not, Lt. Kerry painted a depraved portrait of Vietnam veterans, literally creating the images of those who served in combat as deranged drug-addicted psychopaths, baby killers."

Shares of Sinclair fell 12 cents to $7.38 in Monday trading."
