Does this mean that Al-qaeda has been decimated? After all 75% loss is pretty devastating... we've almost won already, right?

Why won't they just tell us the exact number?

6. I Know!! But Not Counting New Recruits, HOW MANY Is Bush* Talking About?
I want an actual number. Why won't they give us an actual number?

-- Allen

P.S. You're right...the new recruits have probably increased their "army" tenfold!!

12. Because "numbers" don't matter. Intent, drive, patience, hatred,
injustice, economic hegemony, illegal invasions, illegal wars, broken treaties, imperial hubris, these are the things that matter.

They are all on the rise. Shrubya has taken U.S. approval in the M.E. down to single digits... so even if they killed 90% of Al Qaida... there are probably 1000% of that # waiting to follow in their footsteps.

Had we not gone to Iraq to "economically colonize it" things might be different... but the people who are making decisions in your name have given you a bad name. Hopefully there will be enough time for Kerry to right some of this before it spins entirely out of control.

3. Bush only knows what he watches on Fox
They have no idea of how many Al-Qaeda members there are in the world. 75% just sounds good, therefore Bush uses it.

It ignores the legions who have joined since then

7. He didn't mention that it was 75 pct of the leaders that numbered 24.
Estimated over 18,000 memebers of Al Qauda now. The ranks have swelled since we attacked Iraq.

14. There's your number. 75% means EIGHTEEN PEOPLE!
It's outrageous. If people understood Bush's spin on this stat they would then examine all of his other statistics with skepticism, as they well should.

EIGHTEEN PEOPLE!

20. Dear John Kerry,
The next time Bush* uses the 75% figure, please repeat and restate in REAL TERMS *precisely* what he's bragging on. --- EIGHTEEN former Alqaeda leaders!! Wow!

What's one thousand sixty three divided by 18? (Sixty four, sixty-five, sixty-six, sixty seven...)

8. Who knew we had census data on terrorists
Can't even sort out the number of Americans living overseas to the nearest million but we've got good data on Al-Queda. Never mind the thousands of people this grubby war has recruited to terrorist organizations.

11. First off, we don't really know how many Al Qaeda members there are
The organization is actually a very loosely knit coalition of terrorist groups.

Also, as we saw on 9/11 and during the Oklahoma City bombings, it only takes a couple of terrorists to cause havoc and to kill hundreds of people. And they don't even have to be foreigners.

The problem at this point is what are we doing to minimize the potential for a terrorist attack? Obviously you can never eliminate the potential. But we can try to undo some of the hatred against our government, especially in the Middle-East. And we can revamp the intelligence community. And we can get these idiots out of the White House.

Bush's missile defense program is utter bullshit and a complete waste of tax-payer dollars. The chances of a missile being fired at the US are minute compared to the chances of someone carrying in a nuclear or "dirty" bomb or a chemical/biological weapon.

13. YES! Someone FINALLY mentions this!
I couldn't F'ing BELIEVE it when he said it!

75%?!??!!? In what dream world?

We have no idea how many al-Qaeda there are...al-Qaeda has no idea how many members there are. That's how it's supposed to work.

There is NO WAY IN H@LL we have 'brought 75% of al-Qaeda to justice'!

And what does that mean, anyway? Killed them? Put them in Guantanamo with a bunch of innocent people? Tortured them in Abu-Ghraib? I haven't seen any trials of these 75% of al-Qaeda.

18. oh, right, 'enemy combatants'
Something the Bush Administration invented to get around both US law and the Geneva Convention.

So we can do whatever we damn well please with the terrorists who are caught.

17. 75% of the LEADERS, supposedly
They get to decide who the "leaders" are.

So they could name 24 people and say they got 18. I'm not sure what their numbers are, but in any case Al Qaeda has more than enough people to refill those leadership positions, so it means NOTHING.

19. It's like counting fish in the ocean.
You can never find a total number because they keep multiplying and will continue to do so until the Middle East gets some serious Paxil. (At least, I think that's George Bush's solution.)
