2. So good to see this kind of humor here... |
|
I'm pretty new to the DU scene and it's good to see that not everyone is totally enthralled about Kerry and can laugh about it. I am starting to appreciate Kerry more and more, but until recently I was all about ABB and couldn't really stand Kerry either.

Kerry isn't perfect. At least we can admit that we will never have a perfect candidate, unlike the Repulsives who feel Bush is some sort of Messiah.
Kerry is better than Bush by an incredible degree, no doubt about it. But he still isn't perfect.

Just because much of the politics of john kerry are not my own doesn't mean I'm unwilling to acknowledge anything. It just means that john kerry and I don't agree on much. That's my right, and his right, so get over it.

7. You should be happy that non-democrats |
|
are supporting Kerry in this election, not implying that they're ignorant. I know Kerry's history, I have read almost every word of his platform. I am not disrespecting him by poking fun at him. He is not my ideal candidate. In a lot of ways he isn't even close. Frankly, if this election weren't so dire I probably wouldn't be voting for him, let alone supporting him verbally and with yard signs to my neighbors and co-workers. I personally need to balance out the gravity of this election with some humor.

due to being, by definition, a dictatorial tyrant.
For those who are so arrogant as to think they're perfect, criticism is seen as disrespect and stomped upon.
For those who seek knowledge and truth, criticism is always welcomed, appreciated, and examined for what it may reveal. If it turns out to be worthless, it can simply be disregarded.
On edit: KERRY FOR PRESIDENT--because he knows how to listen and learn!

12. Criticize, yes. Barbs attacking on physicality are sophomoric, and I note |
|
that those who hate Kerry here will stoop to that without ever bothering to acknowledge his lifetime of achievements, including the investigating and exposing of more government corruption than any lawmaker in modern history.
Attacking Kerry any way they can is more important to them than researching the facts about the Democratic candidate.
I can find a number of criticisms of Kerry that are constructive, but I don't let uninformed attacks and senseless barbs go by without answer. Not anymore. Not after that tactic was used against Gore in 2000.

John Kerry does have a long face. That's life. I've got too much belly. That's life too (well until my diet kicks in!)
A bumper sticker that takes something everyone recognizes, turns a phrase on its end and comes out with something in support of Kerry is PRETTY GOOD AT THE END OF THE DAY.
You are the only one getting panties in a wad over this. My die-hard Kerry friends were the ONES WHO SHOWED ME THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE. The though it was hilarious! I don't think there is anything wrong with taking the "he looks French" bull shit of the right, and turning it into something positive - "why NOT the long face" is a clever way to do it in my opinion.
If you disagree FINE - but that's just your dumb opinion like I have my dumb opinion. Trying to turn your personal opinion on this into something more sophisticated is ridiculous. Each one of those bumper stickers is a response to RIGHT WING bullshit. It is making fun of right wing shit.
The right says that Kerry looks French? Here's a sticker making fun of that: "Why NOT the long face?" Which I love. The right says that Kerry is a Flip-Flopper? Hey! He'll Flip-Flop for YOU! There is another one on the site that says "Better to Flip Flop than just FLOP!" which again is an obvious slam on right wing talking points. The right makes fun of the nuances comment? "Hey, they're STRONG nuances!"
I am so sick and fucking tired of this bullshit where some people have to have a fucking bullshit answer for every little fucking thing. It's just some fucking levity. There ARE A LOT OF FUCKING PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE KERRY AND ARE VOTING FOR HIM ANYWAY. GET USE TO IT. WITHOUT THEM BUSH WILL BE RE-ELECTED. PERIOD. If Kerry wins, it will be hands down because of the massive and MAJORITY anybody but bush sentiment out there. So start learning to deal with it.
I thought this site was humorous, and I didn't personally find ANY of the things I listed to be "attacking" Kerry - I thought they were great ways to make light of the stupid criticisms of the right in ways that are endearing to those of us who aren't his fanbois.

with an Enron/Halliburton sticker. You know the one -- looks like a B/C sticker but has Enron/Halliburton instead. They also had John Kerry bumper sticker and underneath the "John Kerry" they had white lettering that said "sucks less." OK, so the pickup owner sees the scam with Enron and Halliburton and isn't 100% in the Kerry camp but is behind him enough to go to the trouble of getting a sticker, adding his comment, and, I assume, will cast his vote for him on Nov. 2. As long as Kerry gets the vote I'm OK with it.

They have to start winning SOMETHING. Still a Packer backer, probably til I die, but DANG! (sigh)
Even so, I'm ever so proud of my "Cheeseheads for Kerry" button. Wish I'd had it for the game I saw at Lambert Field a week ago, when Favre got his concussion.
We Cheesehead Dems are a forgiving bunch I find (re: Lambert vs Lambeau). Hey, at least Kerry got the Lombardi quote right.
Both Dems and Repubs were handing out stickers before the Giants/Packers game, with the more vocal presence being the Bushies, whom I was told had signs and such. I was happy to see many Kerry stickers in the stands. The sticker count during the game was about 8 Bush to 6 Kerry, with one drunk guy pointing at my button and saying "Kerry! Right on! Shtay shtrong!"
I also saw a NYFD guy there, and had to give him props. I hope he understood why. I wasn't terribly articulate "Hey NYFD guy! Props, man! Props!" I was havig a 9/11 moment and had to say SOMETHING.

We are 50,000 some-odd people on this site, we can't all agree on everything, except maybe that we all fit into the 'progressive' category. But even with that, I'm sure some would disagree.
I don't think we're whining in this thread. We're laughing. Laughter is good for you.
And, at least in my case, I feel my right to choose has been subverted by our bipartisan, electoral system. I am not doing the subverting. I only wish I had that kind of power. I voted for a third party candidate in 2000. I got shit on for that by so-called progressives. I promised myself at the time that I would continue to vote for the person who best represents me.
I changed my mind this time because I can't stand seeing more people die and go hungry and be sick in our own country and the rest of the world.
Does that make me wishy-washy?

so i can respect nader people for voting nader. i never particularly dug his platform, so i miss the point anyway, but i can respect them voting their convictions.

Thought you were talking about the douche.
Okay, I just went to the Kerry haters site. That's just one step beyond ABB, one step too far, in my opinion.
Though I did like a couple of slogans.
"He'll do"
"Vote for him before you vote against him."
But I agree, it's almost a Republican mockery of ABB. I smell a rat.
Especially unfunny in my eyes is their suggestion that Kerry not campaign because he does better when folks don't see him.
AND DON'T YOU DARE INCLUDE WESLEY CLARK IN THE KERRY HATER CATEGORY. I don't see where they get that idea at all. Or Al Gore for that matter. Have either of these guys made comments that would put them in the "hater" category.
It all seems counterproductive to me -- like trying to use Dean to split the base.

I agree Peter. I'd prefer a less "Republican" approach, not one that reinforces that Kerry flip flops (God, I hate that term), or that his looks matter one whit.
The only one I thought was cute was "but they're STRONG nuances."

|
That is why I think it will always be hard for Dems to dominate the political scene the way Repugs do. We actually DO bring skills of critical analysis and thought to analyzing our own candidates and often times won't vote for them. 93% of Repugs are voting for Bush and you want to tell me there aren't a whole bunch saying "this guy is full of shit?" I'll always remember my grand-dad saying "I'll vote for the a dead horse over a democrat." Most repugs feel that way. It's a hard mentality to beat.
