Basic points to include in the email:
-you are contacting them because they advertise on ___ (station letters)
-the station's parent company, Sinclair Broadcasting, is forcing the station to pre-empt regular programming to show a piece of anti-Kerry propaganda titled "STOLEN HONOR: A Documentary Exposing John Kerry's Record of Betrayal". This is the same company that forced their stations to not show Nightline when they read the names of our fallen soldiers because they did not "believe such political statements should be disguised as news content".
-you realize that it is not this company's fault that Sinclair is doing this, but they are supporting Sinclair by advertising on their station and because of this, they will be involved in a massive boycott, which is gaining local and national attention.

Dear Board of Directors:

Sinclair television stations will be airing a smear campaign against John Kerry in a propaganda piece called “Stolen Honor.” Since this is being done just prior to the election, Sinclair is obviously trying to impact the election unfairly. In a letter to Sinclair Broadcasting, former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt said, "The problem is this: How can it be part of a broadcaster's public interest obligation to aspire to alter the perceptions of the audience about a presidential candidate by showing biased content that in no way reflects either breaking news or even-handed treatment of the issues?"

As a major advertiser, I urge you to withhold advertising on Sinclair stations as a statement that unfair manipulation of an American Election is unpatriotic and unconscionable.

I love Pepsi but cannot support a company that, through their advertising, endorses an attack on the most fundamental of American Constitutional rights - free elections.

60% of each station's advertising comes from local advertising. And they are the ones that are more likely to move on this quickly. Joe's Auto Mart is more likely to--after receiving 100 emails--call the station today and pull out, than is a big company like Pepsi who has to have meeting after meeting to decide what to do.

But, any contacting is better than no contacting! :)

If possible, please try and contact local advertisers as well....according to Josh Marshall, the local folks are the main source of revenue for the individual stations....

A brief follow-up on contacting advertisers. I'm already getting reports from the field that many Sinclair advertisers are starting to communicate their concern to Sinclair. If you don't live anywhere near a Sinclair station then by all means make your concerns known to their national advertisers. But from knowledgable folks I talk to, I get the strong impression that the real point of vulnerability are the local advertisers. So if you live in or really anywhere near a Sinclair market that's definitely where to focus.
