Do Repubs lower their personal standards until Bush meets them? |
|
One worry I have about Bush is that, as "president," he can cause all sorts of bass-ackwards thinking in the country, particularly among members of his own party. Instead of having standards for judging a leader and his record and measuring Bush against them, some Republicans may be doing the opposite. They assume Bush is a worthy president and just lower their standards of what is presidential until Bush makes the grade.

I see this very phenomenon occuring in my in-laws, and it's appalling. Husband and I have talked about this, and we think it's reflective of the all-sports, go-team, must-win mode of thought that's rampant in our culture these days.
It's so much easier to lower expectations than it is to expect (demand) better performance. We see this in grade inflation, criminal hazing in greek organizations on campuses, and white collar crime.
The GOP will hang itself because its constituency has taken the path of least resistance.

be an employee of one of the propaganda corporations and totally dependent on your career and your paycheck and having to live with your conscience knowing that you have chosen to spread the lies and contribute to the character assasinations and death and theft defenses demanded by your propagandist employer (assuming you had a conscience and were aware that you weren't living up to the education that you or your parents paid for.)

That subject requires intense scrutiny. Drug abuse is rampant and evil; limbaugh admits it, may face criminal charges, conservatives call up wishing him well. Clinton's a hypocrite for going to church and carrying a bible. Bush doesn't go to church but he is a christian man of God. Clinton maintains the sanctity of life by not foolishly using our troops lives as pawns. He is weak. bush is ruining our military, getting our kids killed for personal and political gain and he is a strong and forthright war president. Conservatives lost any claim to values about 15 years ago. They are scum of the earth as displayed by their undying support for a military deserting, drug abusing, corporate criminal lying bastard. Now that's conservative values.

You would think that his base is so morally Christian that he would need to meet those standards. But then they do believe in forgivness, except when it is Bill Clinton or Sadam.
