I think one of the most effective methods is to contact the local affiliates (found through this web site) and tell them that you will find and boycott their LOCAL advertisers. This is frightening for these folks because local stations make most of their money from local advertisers and are much more sensitive. They will then turn around and pressure their national.

a couple hundred letters to the local furniture store, used car dealer, or eye doctor is going to get the ad sales staff's--and thuis station managements--attention.
