NEVER FORGET!!! (something I’ll bet is almost forgotten)
Edited on Tue Oct-12-04 08:02 PM by troublemaker
Feel free to mail this to any Republicans you know who make less than $50,000/year.
After 9/11 the stock market was closed for the rest of the week. They announced it would re-open the following Monday. Everyone was scared what would happen… would it crash? Might the DOW drop 1000 points? 3000 points? Everyone said that small investors might get spooked and bail out.

So the weekend before the market opened dozens of spokesmen from the largest financial institutions appeared all over TV (and in print) telling nervous small investors to believe in America and stay the course.

The next morning the markets opened and dropped quite a bit.

Subsequent analysis revealed that small investors patriotically stayed in the market while the biggest panic selling was done by large financial institutions; the same fucking people who had been telling small individual investors to stay in the market.

The rank-and-file Republican voter is, and has always been, cannon fodder. Small businessmen are the shock troops of reaction. The guy who owns a local store is flattered to be included in the same category as General Electric or Exxon. He remains flattered even as Wal-Mart grinds him out of existence.

The Republican Party is a suicide pact.

2. that IS A VERY GOOD POINT
but how does that relate to Repub or Dem? I guarantee a Dem would have said similar calming words to consumers like "go shop...enjoy your life" as Bush did.

The big business guys are the biggest problem. The issue? How to stop them.

4. On Edit: should read small businessmen are the FOOT SOLDIERS of reaction.
(I think that phrase is from Michael Harrington, so I ought to get it right. Shock troops doesn't even make sense... I can't wait for this election to be over.)
