Poll question: Check in if you voted already
I voted today for the first time in a general election. It was absentee and obviously Kerry Edwards and in the all-important battleground state of PA.

I also voted straight Dem for the other offices because there are some close races here and the Republicans running this time are a bunch of wankers. I definitely voted for the three progressive gentlemen in my sig line. Last I heard, Hoeffel is within 9 points of Specter and gaining. Politis doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell thanks to re-districting. (Ronald Reagan could run as a Democrat here and still lose, that's how partisan district 9 is) And yes, Eisenhower is related to Ike.

So who voted already and for whom?

PS (WOOT for all intents and purposes in this post means "we owned the other team" in case you were wondering. And it's a cool thing to yell when you achieve victory.)

oops - forgot my response! I'm voting on the 2nd because I'm working at the polls that day. That way I know my ballot will make its way into the slot!

3. oh and if you haven't heard
The GOP sponsored my ballot, registered me, and paid for the postage and whatnot. Hell, they even offered me a ride to the polls on election day and a reminder to get out and vote. Being from a swing state really does get you a lot of attention.

But they're stupid since I switched my registration to Democrat a year ago. whatever.

6. I have filled in the boxes on my absentee
ballot but I will not mail it. I TAKE it to my polling place and drop it in. The only time I mailed it, I sent it certified so I had a receipt.

7. It was a close call
I had requested a ballot by mail, then found out I have to leave town tomorrow and won't be back until after the election. I was terrified that my absentee ballot might not arrive before I left, so I went down to see if I could vote early in person.

I told the guy that I had requested a ballot by mail, and asked if there was a way I could vote early instead. He firmly said no, and repeated this several times, in spite of me saying I feared I wouldn't get the ballot (this was on the day the ballots were mailed.) He said my only choice would be to vote on Nov. 2 if I didn't get the absentee ballot in time. So I left, hoping that it would show up in time.

It did arrive. (whew.) And what should I read, right there in black and white in the packet that came with it, but that I COULD HAVE signed an affidavit saying I had requested an absentee ballot but didn't get it, and then I could have gotten another absentee ballot to vote early.

So, I was told the WRONG thing by the election official. This was at the county office where early voting is taking place, but I don't know who he was. I felt like going back down there and finding him and making sure he doesn't give misinformation to anyone else, but I don't have time before I leave. I'm sure there was nothing sinister about it, he was just wrong. He had a bit of a huffy attitude, like I was trying to break the rules. :(

Just goes to show how easy it is to turn someone away, though. If I hadn't gotten that absentee ballot in time, I'd have been out of luck.

I'm in New Mexico.
