"God's Work"
Remember well that George Herbert Walker Bush after the recount, such as it was, that Baker was in FL doing "God's work".

I don't recall being as mad as that since that little prick John Fitzpatrick stole my pear from my lunchbox in 3rd grade and lied to the teacher, saying it was his from home...adn she believed him. I remember asking her, "Why would I lie?" and her reply, "Why would he?"

Two years later, on November 22, 1963, she reflexively stood and cheered when they announced on that Friday afternoon, that the President had been killed. And this was a Quaker school in PA.

It is during these times that one reflects upon one's past, looking for parallels and similarities. Many of you here were not alive when that coup occurred in 1963, nor when Lyndon Johnson, nearly five years later, withdrew from the race for the Presidency because he had been a miserable failure and acknowledged that to himself and to the country. Or when Gerald Ford, the only living member of the Warren Commission and hand-picked by the higher powers who-must-be-obeyed pardoned Nixon and cost himself the Presidency. It is worth noting that Ford almost won an electon held in the aftermath of the worst political scandal of the century, a scandal whose further details never came to light in the mass media arena, having pardoned the kingpin and the country gripped by inflation (Whip Inflation Now buttons were the duct tape of that era).

The media hailed him as a hero, this man of few words or thoughts, whose wife was an unfortunate victim of breast cancer and addiction, putting a real face on the WH, to paraphrase Philip Roth, a human being lived there, and the Administration was immune from criticism because they had pushed their predecessor off the front page of the papers and put the crisis of leadership 'behind us' forever. It was almost unimaginable that the party which had fronted the whole Nixon misadventure could recover virtually instantaneously but they did and brought us a President who was exhibiting signs of early senility, and once again the media, not professionally trained as medical diagnosticians allowed this obviously ill man to prevail until he became Woodrow Wilsonized, his wife answering questions for him surreptitiously. Once agaion the reportage was slanted in his favor, excuses made for inadequacies, and deliberate misinterpretations permitted to endure.

The lies of the day when he was shot coming out of the hotel in DC, the continuous PR of his wit and wisdom even as he was near death became the stuff of legend. Elevated to heroic status, the muffled cries from what was left of the left went unheard by the masses. They bought into the line that Bush Sr. used to have lunch with him one day a week in the WH, as though he were attending at the feet of the master, taking direction and learning like some Eastern religious
disciple - or perhaps one of the twelve disciples of Christ. The fact of the matter was that Nancy had gotten wind of the fact that Barbara was making move-in plans when Ronnie was shot, and the Bushes were not welcome in the private quarters. whether the President knew or cared was irrelevant to him and to GHWB; it was all a show, and they both had much to gain. This relationship was played up enormously by the Republicans, it was as though a line of succession was about to be unfurled upon the American people and it was. The dreams of Joe Kennedy were realized by the Bush clan, and the plan may have just begun to be exercised.

It is fascinating to hear the pundits wax poetic about the plain-spokenness of our Fearless Leader. They pretend that he is some sort of progressive populist from the Midwest from time immemorial. We heard the same pronouncements during the McCarthy era about bravery of our leaders against threats foreign and domestic. We saw the inclusion at that time of the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. We are paralleling that time except that the Russians never attacked us on our soil. The radical Muslims did and have afforded us a better opportunity to truly do "God's work" in repulsing thte enemy from our shores. That enemy for the right wing who have taken over the seats of power is not the aforementioned Muslims, but the true Americans who believe in true Democracy and the freedoms as outlined in the Constitution. Many intellectually hones conservatives appreciate this fact, many senior military people do as well. They, better than we, understand exactly where this crowd is taking us. Be aware and beware of the nature of "God's work".

2. We teach our children and those who will listen
and we pss along the wisdom of the ages - the higher order truths. These are all cliches but they have true meaning and it is the only way that the light stays on.

I once had a man who told me that he thought that truth was defined as what 12 reasonable men and women might be peruaded to believe. HE wasn't even a lawyer. For many, there is no level other than the one in which they function daily. It reminds me of the book "Flatland". Worth a read - fascinating in light of today's culture and written a long time ago in a galaxy far away.

Test it.

If people truly believe that *jr has been chosen by God, then they must NOT vote.

let go. let God.
It's God's will.

7. Of course you would...
they're trying to get their base out - they are praying that that plus Diebold plus Jeb will be sufficient.

Maybe not this time...

I want to see that fat Russert on MSNBC saying, gee Tom, who'd have thoght that John Kerry, the liberal Massachusetts Senator, could carry this many states when our polls, OUR POLLS, showed him tied at best.

But then:

Matthews: Let me interrupt here, HEY, I told you that the President would have to et his base out and woo undecideds and we had no idea there were that many new voters out there. What do you think it was Tom?

Brokaw: Things are not always what they seem to be. Well, President-elect Kerry has his hands full. The War in Iraq, clearly he is not in a position to manage it properly, since his own war record is still under a cloud, some people say that he sufferred from self-inflicted wounds; I wouldn't be surprised if he is greeted by a hostile house, never mind the newly Democratic Senate, and impeached as soon as he takes the oath for his swift-boat lies. We have here Tom DeLay, and Ken Starr who is expected to be nominated by the outcoing PResident Bush to a Blue-ribbon panel investigating President-elect Kerry...
