More republican vote fraud.
I work at a law firm in DC and one of my colleagues just announced to me and about 10 others that he was going to vote in Virginia because it is a swing state rather than in D.C. where he moved at least six months ago and got a mortgage. I agonized over switching my vote to Maryland or voting in Virginia (where I am still registered) and would love to vote in Virginia. I told him he was committing vote fraud. He says, "Yeah, but what are they gonna do to me?" I told him he could be disbarred and he looked like I'd kicked him in the stomach. What is it with these lawless Republicans?

Our firm is full of people who are going to watch the polls, be on the legal teams, etc. With a few righteous republicans sleazing around. These republicans are innately lawless because it's coming straight from the top. It's pathetic really.

1. Voting in 2 states is a felony, being registered in 2 states is more compl
icated.

I was registered in Arizona for the 1998 elections, moved to TX as a graduate student that fall, voted by absentee in November. The next spring I registered in TX, after getting a TX driver's liscence and sent a letter to Maricopa County, AZ informing them of my move. They ignored it. I know this because a year later I was called to jury duty in Arizona. I sent back the form telling them I didn't live there anymore. I have been voting in Texas for 5 years now. Fast forward ahead to Feb. 2004, my parents went to vote in the Democratic primary (for Clark) and told me that my name was still on the rolls! If they won't take my name off after repeated reminders on my part there's nothing I can do about it. In reality, the feds will only prosecute you if you vote in multiple jurisdictions. I think they know that voter registrations are more cumbersome to control.

3. Yeah I know.
And voting in the wrong jurisdiction is only a misdemeanor. But knowingly committing vote fraud when you are a lawyer is arguably a disbarrable offense because the lawyer is committing fraud on the very system he is sworn to uphold. I don't know if the republicans have gotten control of the DC Bar yet, but if this were reported, I am almost certain they would open a complaint. I wonder what these sleazy Republicans would do if the shoe was on the other foot? He's a friend of mine, I wouldn't want to turn him in (although you actually have to turn the person in under the rules). But I don't want him voting in Virginia and continuing to sleep well. Not after we've been killing ourselves to prevent the illegalities the Republicans are committing.

5. As I recall from moving from MO to OH
One of the first things we did was register in OH so we could vote in the 2000 election. But we never changed our status in MO. As long as you do not attempt to vote both places, there is no crime.
I say these people need to be reported.

U.S. attorney sets up phone number to report voter fraud

Last Update: 09/09/2004 5:02:46 PM
By: Associated Press

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - U.S. Attorney David Iglesias has set up a telephone number for citizens to call if they suspect voter fraud.

The number, (505) 889‑1300, will provide a way to gather allegations for a voter fraud task force created by Iglesias on Tuesday to investigate.

Iglesias says the task force already has started investigating one complaint, but he has declined to provide details.

The task force will act on as many legitimate voter fraud allegations as possible.

Iglesias says they could end up in civil court.

The task force will quit work on November 16, two weeks after the November 2 election.

Iglesias says federal penalties for various election crimes range from five to ten years in prison and fine of $10,000 to $250,000.

4. Thanks adaircraft.
He hasn't done it yet. He's pretty smooth and wants to run for office someday. I think I can make it pretty hard for him to vote in Virginia.
And if he does, and my man loses, I probably will turn him in to both the feds and the bar. You're right. You know they'd do it to us.

7. You're right.
They'd do it to us in a heartbeat. Just like with all the voter fraud stuff I'm hearing - it is all republican inspired. They're not too concerned with it yet they're still clamoring about dems signing up voters via act and other 527 groups. It's not illegal to register voters, but I think it's probably pretty illegal to tear up democratic registrations like they're doing.

6. Report this human slime.
He's despicable, especially given the profession he's in.

8. Ah, family values
brings a tear to me eye.

And the same wingnuts in my state are crying about honesty. Geez.

I guess the end justifies the means.
