25 Chechen terrorists may be roaming the country?
U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report that a group of 25 Chechen terrorists illegally entered the United States from Mexico in July.
The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia, according to officials familiar with intelligence reports.
Members of the group, said to be wearing backpacks, secretly traveled to northern Mexico and crossed into a mountainous part of Arizona that is difficult for U.S. border security agents to monitor, said officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.

So, he doesn't protect our borders, he reduces the number of police paid for by government funds, and now we might have terrorists in the country? How can anyone support Bush? His record is just a laundry list of failures.

7. Funny that this story breaks now!
Like all other terra threats, the timing is just amazing.
Will they use this as a justification for canceling the debate?

6. Yeah, that happened
"U.S. security officials are investigating a recent intelligence report"

From who? Did Feith and Perle come up with this report? Are they playing around again? Those boy's of ours. Always getting into trouble.

"The Chechen group is suspected of having links to Islamist terrorists seeking to separate the southern enclave of Chechnya from Russia"

Which would cause 25 of them to sneak into the US because?

Oh wait, it's Bill Gertz and and The Washington Times. Now I understand.

The sad part is that there will be people that buy this story. And they'll get scared, because of what happened in Russia a few weeks ago. And they'll end up voting for Bush because we're a nation of idiots.

8. I believe it. Our border is wide open. Doesn't take a genius
to figure out it's an easy way for terrorists to get in.I'm sure it's not the first time. Plus I would figure the Chechen's would know how to survive in the mountains, assuming the terrain is similar to their region. I don't think this makes Bush look good at all.

10. Kind of reminds me of the Libyan Hit Squad that was loose in the US
during Reagan's term. Turned out to be bogus bullshit designed to scare people and to take their minds of the Iran-Contra scandal.

Hard to know what to believe anymore...

The following article is from Feb. '03. It's long but well worth a read.

Who you gonna call? Mythbusters
Organizers' Collaborative aims to detect and correct government-sponsored bunkum before it takes hold

http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=14525

It's getting harder to sift through the chatter and take much of anything the government says about Iraq or the war on terrorism seriously, let alone believe government-issued terrorist warnings. (Let's not forget the recent FBI warning that five suspected terrorists had crossed the U.S. border from Canada. Within hours, pictures of the five blanketed the 24/7 news channels and the Internet, and even the president called on the American people to be on the lookout for the five. It took a few days, but FBI officials eventually admitted they had been snookered by an informant.) And, as is the case in most media-induced fear-fests, when the correction comes, it's too late to stem the jitters.

"What if the media were to report a false story, and then fail to correct that false story until three or four days later? What if the story were circulated in all the major papers and media web sites, and all the talk shows were buzzing about it? What if then, the story fed on itself, so that the reaction to the story became even bigger than the original story? And finally, what if, by the time the original story is corrected (on page 34 most likely, or the digital equivalent), it is dwarfed by the reaction to the original false story? So that, it was as if the correction never happened?"
