"The unbelievable part about this is that when we went to Fancy Farm my wife was black and blue from their staff or someone connected with the Mongiardo campaign — absolutely running into her," Bunning said. "If anything would get me mad or get me a little upset, would be someone trying to abuse my wife."

...

Dr. Donald A. Saelinger of Southgate wrote that he has been Bunning's doctor for 15 years.

"He has had several minor health issues over the years, all of which are currently resolved or well-controlled," Saelinger wrote. "He comes to the office regularly for health maintenance matters. His current health status is excellent."

Saelinger said in a phone interview that federal law prohibits him from elaborating on the minor health issues.

But nothing prohibits Bunning from releasing his doctor from that obligation! This is Chauncey Gardener, bluegrass-style!

3. He took one too many Bob Gibson fastballs to the head
Interesting facts about his baseball career:

http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/hofer_bios/bunning_jim.htm

Pitching primarily with the Tigers and Phillies, Jim Bunning maintained dedication and consistency in posting 224 career wins. He was a menacing right-handed side-armer who became the first pitcher to record 100 wins and 1,000 strikeouts in both the American and National leagues. Bunning also pitched no-hitters in both circuits, including a perfect game at Shea Stadium on Father's Day in 1964. A dominant figure in the founding of the players' union, he helped establish the players' pension plan. Bunning was elected to the United States Senate from Kentucky on November 3, 1998.

Did you know ... that Jim Bunning's perfect game of 1964 was the first such gem pitched in the National League since 1880?

5. Bob Gibson - old no. 45...
Every time I had a choice in picking a uniform number, or any two-digit number for my use I've been no. 45.

Of course, growing up in St. Louis in the 60's would do that to a kid.

No. 45 won me $50 in a charity mouse race once...

6. RUMOR HAS IT!
as i stated earlier, a very good friend of mine has been active in the gop here in ky for years, and he told me bunning has early stages of alzheimers. i dont know if this is true or not,but he refuses to release his medical records. i was swore to secrecy by my friend as far as naming names. but he has told me other things in the past that has proven true. he told me if bunning wins, he is going to hold office about 6 months then quit due to medical reasons, that way they can appoint another re-pug in his place
