SEriously, they only have 2 1/2 weeks for their "October Surprise"...it's gettin' a little late in the day. So what's it to be?

8. I've heard about that, but:
Schröder, the chancellor, has opposed Struck's statements very clearly, and has insisted there would be no deployment in Iraq. http://www.reuters.de/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=top... (it's in German, don't know if it's available in English anywhere). Headline: "Schröder Emphasizes Absolute 'No' to German Deployment in Iraq."
Although, of course, the opposition is claiming that the coalition is just trying to win time by letting the Defense minister reconsider the point before the government itself changes its position.

But don't forget the public. Yes, public opinion in Germany (and most of Europe actually) is overwhelmingly in favor of Kerry, but that does not extend to all the 'rotten albatrosses' he inherits from Shrub*. If German participation there would be reconsidered, people here would be very upset, and there'd be tons of protests. Not that protests helped against Bush, but who knows?

Martin Landau peeling off the latex mask at the end of all the old
"Mission: Impossible" TV series, right as the bad guys' plan falls apart. Cue the sound track !

3. The Bin Laden apprehended is most plausible.
There are so many rumors now, and Bush himself said he was not too concerned about finding him.

The smear on SincLiar would be the easy guess here, but it's too obvious I think. There's nothing new about smearing Kerry, the media's done it for months.

And the election being canceled is my innermost fear. But at the same time, it would be a triumph. The Evil has been forced to show its true colors - I'd prefer an outright cancelling over a fixed result. It would be more honest, it would call more attention, and it would finally make people realize what 'democracy' and its absence actually means!

5. Al-Zorro
the Beheader will be captured. Since that could be a well controlled myth that is something that could be staged in connection with both "success" and "quiet" stories in a last minute blitz that we are getting out of the woods at last. Under this blanket a truck bomb taking out half of Baghdad would have a hard time making a headline.

Rather than a single stunning event open to heavy scrutiny it might well be what Rove is suggesting- a full court press assault on many negative points against Kerry and deflating attacks against Bush. The one thing they don't want is anyone to think too much about the economy or other issues. It will be war and terrorism all the way whether an attack or a big capture happens or not.

Vote fraud will increase not diminish in face of opposition and exposure. Like 2002 the GOP will vaunt its "machine" and attack notable instances of mom and pop variety Dem vote fraud.

This is the challenge we have had for four years. The GOP can't change, can't run on their record, can't play fair, but it worked before and the opposition against them has not yet been decisive.

The fact that most of the country doesn't yet get it or at least not even close to the whole picture is what keeps them going on bluff. The media reflects and creates the murk they need.

This time we fight. This time they lose.

...over a supposed October surprise to be delivered today. There was a thread on it yesterday.

I tend to think realistically that it was the sinclair broadcasting. but there's part of me that keeps wondering if OBL won't make a cameo soon. =)

10. No October surprise until
after this last debate. There was no way they could have pulled something up until now and then have Kerry confront shrub face to face over it. Now that the coward chimp gets to hide away from Kerry expect some nasty drag thru the mud shit starting tomorrow up until the election. This is going to get ugly!

13. here's my take ...
bush has hung his whole campaign on terror and Iraq ... we certainly aren't going to see any last minute miracles on the economy ...

so, on terrorism, either he finds bin Laden (i doubt it) or we have a terrorist event in the U.S. ... the alert system has totally lost its credibility ... ooooh, we're on red alert ... is red the bad one ?? nobody cares about alerts anymore ... so, perhaps we go to red alert, the democrats call it playing politics, and then, oh gosh, there actually is a (manufactured) terrorist event in the U.S. ... it's a double whammy ... the democrats called it playing politics and bush was shown to be right ... it's a good thing we have such a strong, resolute president to protect us and not those silly democrats ...

or, alternatively, something significantly changes in Iraq ... i've been suspicious of Sistani since he made that "medical" trip to London ... perhaps he's been promised something big to squash the insurgency ... it's a bit close to the election to try this as the October surprise but a couple of weeks of quiet in Iraq would certainly help bush ...
