National Rifle Association Endorses Bush
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041013/ap_on_el_pr/bush_nra

WASHINGTON - The National Rifle Association endorsed President Bush (news - web sites) for re-election on Wednesday, promising millions of dollars for ads, phone banks and other get-out-the-vote efforts.

The Supreme Court is going to be crucial to the future of the Second Amendment, and President Bush will appoint justices that respect the Bill of Rights," NRA chief executive Wayne LaPierre told The Associated Press in a phone interview before announcing the endorsement at a news conference in Duluth, Minn.

Bush also supports legislation to protect the firearms industry from lawsuits and opposes centralizing files on gun owners, LaPierre said, calling the difference between Bush and Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) on guns "day and night."

LaPierre also planned news conferences in Flint, Mich.; Youngstown, Ohio, and Pittsburgh.

2. Why did they wait so long?
Maybe Kerry should challenge Bush to go shooting at a range with him. I wonder who the best shot would be? Hmm.

6. Bush shoots tequila.. Kerry shoots guns.
The NRA is all about money.ANother bunch of old, fucking greedy, white men. I just read in an interior design book, that the reason Walnut is not used more for furniture, etc., anymore, is that it's used in gunmaking.. and there is just not enough to go around because of all the guns being made.

7. Pope LaPierre
So after he disgraces himself in front of papa Bush Heston steps in as figurehead. Now LaPierre again. I wonder if any of the membership is growing tired of being headed by political stooges for life.

Probably waited for the assault weapon ban to expire just for the pretense of dangling their clout.

12. They'll take your guns...
I wonder if these people realize that Bush will take their guns away anyway after the election. He has gone on record in saying that he supports the Assault Weapons ban and that he will vote on it if Congress brings it to him.

Obviously, this is mutual back-scratching on the part of Congress and the President, but what the NRA has always failed to understand is that the government is going to take away their guns anyway, Republican or Democrat, when it is politically the time for them to do so.

After the election, Bush doesn't have to answer to them anymore.

15. Is everyone at a NRA meeting packing heat?
Always wondered if they allow everyone that goes to their meetings to come in locked and loaded? Seems like a disaster just waiting to happen with all the kooks in one room. They can't really ask everyone to leave the fire power home since they think everyone should be armed 24/7. Inquiring mind just wondering.

17. Big Fucking Shock. Newsflash: NRA disgrace to all gun-owners
It's disgusting that the NRA is what peopel thing of when it comes to gun rights. It's pretty sad that there isn't a group that represents responsible gun owners and responsible defense of the 2nd ammendment balanced with healthy understanding of the challenges of the modern world of insta-weapondry. Wouldn't it be great of there was an organization with as much lobbying power as the NRA where its memebers said, "hey I love guns too, but I don't think that means we should knee-jerk reject any form of legislation at all that has to do with responsible gun ownership. I love my tradition of gun ownership, but that doesn't mean that I think American citizens are born with the inalienable right to personally own a howitzer.

I ought to start an organization, Citizens for Repsonisbble Gun Ownership. We would support things like waiting periods, assult weapons bans, liscensing of all gun owners (if you have to have a liscense to drive a car, you sure as hell have to have a liscense to own a leathal weapon) closing of loopholes, etc.

should be immediately drafted to Iraq. You'd think they would be clamoring to get over there, mobbing the enlistment office, right?
