Latest effort to supress African-American Vote
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 10:53 AM by pse517
Yahoo: Blacks Express Ambivalence About Kerry

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2027&ncid=2027&e=2&u=/chitribts/20041013/ts_chicagotrib/blacksexpressambivalenceaboutkerry

When did John Pappageorge start writing headlines for the Chicago Tribune? Looks like the Republican's effort to suppress the black vote is in a desperate full court press mode now. This "why vote" idea has been a growing thing in the media over the last couple weeks. Now it appears to be focusing on the primary targets of the Republican message to not vote: African-Americans.

(Pappageorge is the MI Repug state Rep who got caught this past July publicly saying how the GOP needed to "supress the black vote" in MI.)

1. I read this... WHY is it they only write negative stories?
I guess it's not an issue to walk into a business and find blacks supporting Kerry. When will the fucking smears stop??

7. Or why not the headline...Blacks Favor Kerry 8-1 over Bush
How is that ambivalent? Anecdotal evidence from two guys in a barber shop trumps that data into the headline?

3. Kerry is not the issue. The danger of another four years of Bush is.

10. If you are correct, and I expect that you are, it show that the
inner-city blacks have much more political savvy than about half of the rest of the population. Any human in their right mind can recognize Bush for the crook that he is. Of course, the very rich don't care because he's making them richer. They don't mind selling their Country down the road for some extra millions that they don't even need. Greed is an ugly and dangerous human attribute.

12. They know the economy is bad and everything costs more
And even if things like healthcare or income taxs don't effect them because they sell crack and don't pay taxes and receive indigent care at the ER, they do care that he is a TWO-FACED punk ass bitch.

If you haven't tried the TWO-FACED graphic in the innercity I urge you to.

6. "Ambivalent" does not mean apathetic.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 10:58 AM by The Backlash Cometh
I expect them to be ambivalent towards a Democratic president. They've been telling you for years that Democrats shouldn't take their vote for granted and that they don't feel they always get the proper representation when they vote for the Democrats. But then, Republicans are worse. So I would expect them to have as strong feelings in favor of a Democratic president as doubts as to whether it would really change anything. They may be ambivalent, but they're not undecided.

9. Don't need to spin it!
The exact quote is "suppress the Detroit vote". Damaging enough.

11. Sorry, you're right...

I am guilty of translating the coded language in his actual quote. My Pappageorge quote was inaccurate. He did say "Detroit vote." Too late to edit it, but thanks for the correction.
