Is anyone more pessimistic today than they were yesterday?
Is it just me? The story about the registration scam in Las Vegas has me feeling utterly hopeless about the integrity of the system today. Just a few days ago, I had some faith in the ability of Americans to be just and do the right thing. But in order for them to do that, the system has to be more or less incorruptible. I have no faith in the system today. I think the cards are stacked way against the left, liberalism, the people, Democrats, democracy, justice, etc.

I should maybe stop reading about the Roman Empire. :evilfrown:

1. I feel good about our chances today
I feel an underground swell...and it's pointing to a victory in 3 weeks. Bush is starting to get desperate and that will be his undoing and final nail.

3. overwhelmed
That stuff and the crap coming out about my congressman
David Wu, after 28years is getting kind of sleazy.
We have to stay positive
I know it is hard to do sometimes, especially if you know they
are cheating and running a sleazy campaign

6. It's not Kerry I'm worried about.
It's not even the majority of the American people I'm so worried about as I am about the system itself. It could just be a passing bit of anxiety.

its frightening ...and I am torn.

One minute I am all, "Think positive! KERRY IN A LANDSLIDE! KERRY IN A LANDSLIDE!" and the next I am ready to move to mexico and live in the jungle so I don't have to live in this spoonfed, survivor watching paris hilton worshipping culture of fat gun toting homophobic bible thumping morons that make up the majority of this country.

lordy lordy how long can this go on!

My kingdom for a news channel on the TV that is not biased one way or the other.

People need to be properly informed for a democracy to work!

5. Not really pessimistic
But I'm starting to worry that there will be an unmanageable amount of lawsuits this time around. The Dems certainly aren't going to roll over this time.

I still think Kerry will win in a landslide and nullify voter disenfranchisement and BBV.

Don't make me put you on my Hand Wringers Ignore List. The people I've been talking to recently are all fired up about the election and planning to exercise their vote, many for the first time in years or the first time ever. They cannot deny all of us our votes and the stories like the one in Las Vegas are the ones that make undecideds swing toward our side.

On Edit: Should we all take a video camera to a polling place and just camp out there on election day?

9. Yes! We should take video cameras into yuppie neighborhoods
or stake out SUVs near polling places. Give those assholes a taste of their own medicine.

10. Cheer up....here's some good news....
1. F/911 is out in the stores and being bought/rented by the droves.

2. "THE CHOICE"...a frontline special running this week and available on line next week will be viewed by millions.

3. The electoral college map has been generally moving in Kerry's favor since the first debate.

4. Even though the 3 debates have been torn to incomprehensible shreds by the media...people will generally come away with the plain view that Bush is arrogant and potentially out of control, whereas Kerry is more presidential. Remember....presidential elections are often decided on this basic fact of who delivers this subliminal presidential image. The flip flop thing was good as a commercial, but can't take precedence over 3 total debates where many millions finally got to see the statesman side of Kerry.

5. There was no trick play to produce OBL.

6. People may be finally getting the picture that Iraq is a mess.

7. Millions more people than are reflected in polling data will be going to the polls....predominantly for Kerry.

Feel any better?

13. My furnace/AC serviceman told me that Kerry is going to win and that
he confident about it! He also knew all of what I was telling him about Bush...he thought Bush looked like a fool at the debates. I don't know where he gets his info, but I was very happy to see this twenty-something guy who uses some incorrect English seeing through all of the Bush-crap!

 Why is NM so borderline, by the way? It would seem to me to have a lot going for it to make it solidly Democratic. Where are the wingers coming from out there?

14. The Sinclair story has required a postition of defense
...and that isn't as confidence inducing as only focusing on offense. I'm not saying the *story* requires defense but that the actions we were obligated to take were reactive, rather than proactive.

Tonight's stakes are very high.

16. Well said. And true.
Unfortunately. I hope Kerry is fully on the offense tonight. I think they'll try to get him on the defense. That says something about how solid a position THEY are in as "incumbents!" I should remind myself of that.

19. Cheer up Burtworm..Come Nov 3
No matter who goes in, its gonna get worse, so be happy today. Sorry Burtworm..I meant to make you feel better. I am like you kinda down ! Not about the election but the losing of soldiers. Loss of civil liberties. We have turned the corner and ended up in 1930 with Hoover at the helm and no dem congress. I think America has really become a scary place to live.

And not just because of Bush. The whole culture is degraded.

But at least we all have each other. :hi:

17. I always feel a little
nervous on debate days anyway. Once it is over--I will be fine--I know that Kerry always does great. But I am generally very nervous going into it--and the first time I watch I miss a lot because I am just concentrating on Kerry doing well. I always tape it so that I can go back and enjoy it again after the stess of the actual event is over.

23. Yes and no
I blow hot and cold. One day, I can't imagine us losing (because of the consequences, and also because of...George W. Bush?), the next, I can't imagine Rove letting Bush lose. I feel confident one moment, morose the next.

The cards are stacked, the press is useless, but what choice do we have except to keep fighting? It's like Victor Lazlo saying to Rick in Casablanca: "If you stop breathing, you die. If you stop fighting, the world dies." Not that Bush is Hitler, but just because this is not quite World War II does not mean the stakes for us are less.

28. Great post
Like Casablanca, "We'll always have DU."

I have more faith in Kerry than any other politican in my lifetime. Maybe that's because it matters so much. But the system, and every lie they continue to tell about our very security scares the shit out of me. The powers that be don't give a whit about Democracy. I'm praying the people have the power.
