Kerry from 20,000 feet - Iowa
This is too cool.

NORWALK, IA – Mark McClain, captain for Northwest Airlines, chairman of the Northwest Airlines Master Executive Council and Norwalk farmer, mowed ‘KERRY’ into his 40-acre field on the approach to runway 3-1 at the Des Moines Airport.

“After the debate last Friday I said, ‘that’s it,’” said McClain. “I’m gonna make a statement about what we oughta do. When Bush comes in I want him to know that we are paying attention and we don’t want him here. And I want Kerry to know he is welcome.”

The inscribed field is identifiable from 20,000 feet and the Kerry-Edwards campaign confirmed that they will be using runway 3-1 on Thursday when Senator Kerry arrives before the “Rally for Stronger America” at the state fairgrounds that evening with Senator Edwards, Teresa Heinz Kerry and Elizabeth Edwards.

“I went out today and did it again because it might rain and when it does, the dirt gets even darker and you can see it very well.”

McClain used a disc harrow last Sunday to tear up the harvested soy bean field which is part of his 350 acre farm that has been in his family for forty years. Each letter is 600 feet tall and 400 feet wide. McClain and his wife Lonnie live at the farm with their two children, Jenny, 18 and John, 16.

“If Kerry wins I’d like to leave it, but I’ll probably plow it in November which is normal practice,” McClain said. “But I just did it because its time to do something around here.“

hopefully this will get a little air play.

19. And MSNBC & CNN
I already did. If they don't pick up this story, their Bush bias will be clear. That's what I told them. Join me and take this national! We can multi-task, this and Sinclair and the bulge and the Duelfer Report. We can drip drip drip too!

Let's go to work!

10. Wonderful- on Leno last night Edwards mentioned the big Iowa rally
Great that so many people like him are expending so much time and effort to do positive things in their own way to show support.

17. IOWA, God's country
Really cool.
My parents are in Iowa and they keep telling me that no one around them is talking anything good about bush. They live in a community where the American Legion is big and pro-Kerry

21. Iowa! It is a great state
Lived many other places and love it here. It will go Kerry, except many ads from scrub about taxes and it is hurting a little. Love this picture, it also shows the different colors of the trees. I hope Cheney and Scrub sees it when they come. Cheney says the most idiotic things here like he thinks Iowans are stupid.

28. This puts those enormous bush signs to shame
There are not many Bush signs here in Eastern Iowa but the ones that are here are huge. It is like people are shouting at you with these behemoths. Kerry wins Iowa easily.

29. HAH.....so cool, I don't know many Dem pilots,
most for some odd reason are wingnuts (oh, wing... it just hit me) :D

By the way, the picture wasn't taken from anywhere near 20,000 feet, it looks more like about 1,500...and the runway is 13/31 not 1-3. ;-)
I fly into there fairly often, will hope for a NW wind next time so I can see it.

31. Can be seen from 20,000
I don't think the article says the pic is taken from 20,000. And I'll see what I can do about getting the runway thing fixed. Thanks!
