Time to Give it Up
While the so called candidate supporters continue to ignore the candidate they support in favor of opposing other people's candidates, I've gone ahead and geared up for the greatest show of support I can give my guy. I'm giving it up for Dean. From my site:

"They say giving up smoking is harder than giving up heroin. I've never used heroin, so it's hard to verify, but I've seen Trainspotting, so it looks like I'm in for some serious trouble"

http://www3.deanforamerica.com/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1090&px=1260977

Starting next week, I'm going to donate $10 per week, money I saved by not smoking, to the Dean campaign. Anyone who would like to support me can pledge to donate any amount for every week or month that I refrain from smoking. On the site there is a link to my blog, which I will update with news.

Back to your flamewars.

1. There are a couple of these pledges
(give up smoking & donate savings to Kucinich) on the Kucinich blog.

Good plan! Helps your candidate, and helps you, too! :D Good luck!

7. I made a similar pledge
Rather than picking up a six pack two or three or four times a week I'm drinking iced tea at home and donating my beer money to Dean.

Good luck giving up smoking. That's a nasty habit and a bitch to quit.

13. What's to give up
If you don't support him, there's nothing to give up.

Although you are addicted to him. I'm not sure zyban is strong enough for Dean on the Brain. You might need something stronger.

I hear they're making advances in leaps leaps and bounds with trepanning.

14. If Dean loses the nomination
smoking will be the least for me to worry about. Having to vote for a second rate candidate will be the biggest burden for me.

28. That remains to be seen.
Don't mind me, I'm just dishing it out like I'm receiving it.

If it were you and I having this discussion instead of me an Dean Opponent Number 447, I wouldn't have said that. I still have respect for those who show respect to others.

12. Good for you!
I'd follow in your footsteps, but my biggest addiction is DU, and I don't think I have the willpower to give it up. Of course, I'm sure giving Dean the cash I usually spend on internet access would be spending it more effectively than engaging in flamewars here.

17. You can do it Hep!!!!
I quit ten years ago after a ten-year pack-and-a-half a day habit. I felt better almost immediately, and saved a ton of $$ (I smoked Dunhills-- a habit I picked up when living in the UK-- which used to cost more over here).

My old man quit his 2 pack/day habit after 40 years, and he hasn't touched a smoke in 14 years now! Instead he rides a bike for 10 miles a day. Not bad for a guy who'll be 61 in March!

Stick to it, and you'll quit. You can do it!

I wish you well with your quest of quitting...something I've not accomplished for over 40 years.

Your candidate may not be mine, but by golly it's great that your money is going to the man you believe in rather than up in smoke.

Great example of personal commitment to a candidate - Howard Dean should be proud to have among his supporters.
