9. yeah he could have mentioned a more public lesbian
Ellen DeGeneres for example... I kind of understand the political hardball of reinforcing the difference between Bush & Cheney on the issue, but it's better to bring up someone else.

10. Your thread would make zero sense to someone not watching the debate
live as you posted it.

Gotta love threads like this.

re: context, it was about gay rights and Kerry brought up Cheney's daughter.

16. AMEN.
No one pointed a gun to Mary Cheney's head and forced her to work for Bush/Cheney.

Mary Cheney is an OPEN gay woman and works for Bush.

She's open for this.

15. it wasn't a secret AND
if MC was upset, you'd have seen her.

it's VERY important to point out that ANY family can have a gay member and that they can be loved and respected.

it's about the hypocrisy.

18. If the tables were turned you KNOW the GOP would use it.
Hi, reference John McCain's black child.

It's not like they're spreading rumors and innuendo.

I'd rather they didn't do it, but I don't begrudge the choice to bring her up when gay issues are asked.

23. Exactly... just like McCain, but this time it's true!
Kerry/Edwards keep talking about Cheney's lesbian daughter because it turns the religious right off. Cheney is not a "born again," he doesn't speak about Jesus and how the gods want him to be vice president, like the Moron in Chief does, thus the religious right tolerates him as long as he serves a purpose.
I live in Texas, most people in here believe gays are the result of unstable homes, they think it does never happen in Christian homes. At the same time, most of them don't know about Cheney's daughter... not long ago a co-worker said she was appaled that the democrats "accused" Cheney's daughter of being a lesbian... we told her it was true, she's out there in the open. She thought it was "liberal smear." You could tell she was really turned off, she was only able to mutter "I'll pray for her..."
Some conservatives may stay home if Cheney's daughter is really a lesbian... so we better keep pounding on it. It hasn't reached middle America (i.e. ignorants who pick their news through Rush Limbaugh and Fox News).

are gay. Heck it says to America "you just may have a gay loved one too". Think about it.
