Boom. "I supported McConell minimum wage." LIE. Here. |
|
BUSH CLAIMS:
Bush says he supported Mitch McConnell's minimum wage bill.
REALITY:
Bush Opposes Real Minimum Wage Increase. Bush has proposed raising the federal minimum wage by $1 an hour but only if states could opt out of the increase. According to the AP, Bush's qualification for a minimum wage increase was "a condition that could render a proposed increase meaningless." Since the minimum wage increase enacted in 1996, the Republican-controlled Congress has refused to act on a further increase. President Bush and the Republicans are rapidly approaching the record for the longest period, set in the 1980s, without an increaseAdjusted for inflation, the minimum wage is 24.5% lower than it was 24 years ago and is rapidly approaching an all-time low set in 1989. . Bush has not used his influence to pass a minimum wage law in congress, where the law cannot even get out of committee. Ø Bush Refused To Raise Texas Minimum Wage. Bush resisted raising Texas' decade-old minimum wage, which was only $3.35 an hour.
