5. Goddamned Atheist?
Isn't that oxymoronic? After all, how can an Atheist be God-damned if they don't believe there's a god? ;)

6. I understand the rant
I'm okay with kerry though, because I think he honestly respects atheists.

but it would be nice if a person could get elected without having to trot out their faith for public approval.

and I'm a Christian. It'd be nice not to have this "NO! I'M MORE RELIGIOUS" bullshit argument anymore.

Sheesh. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE RELIGION OF THE PRESIDENT!!!

8. Absolutely. I'm so sick of this crap.
At least Kerry doesn't let it interfere with his decisions. Bush seems to think the world will end soon enough that there won't be any consequences.

12. We may have had one a long time ago, but not again any time soon
The country has become more religious over the past century and it is now a litmus test. Something would have to change for an atheist to get in.

I think we may have had a covert 1 or 2 in the early days of the country.

13. Doesn't have to be atheist, just private about religion.
But yeah, I'd LOVE an atheist president.

Or agnostic or humanist or UU or Buddhist...

No more Christians. They've had their chance. Step aside boys. Give the freethinking girls a chance.

Pcat

14. I say believe or don't
Makes no nevermind to me. As long as they don't base all decisions on their own faith, or non-faith. An Atheist who makes decisions for the Country on their non belief is just as bad.

22. I'd settle for simple tolerance, and not the knee-jerk...
...assumption that "atheist" = communist or satanist or some other damnfool irrelevant thing.

I like to tell my Christian friends that we're not that far apart on religion.

In the world today, there are about 500 deities being worshipped somewhere.

They don't believe in 499 of 'em, and I don't believe in one more.

17. I wish we could just take religion out of the equation.
It freaking pisses me off that religion gets brought up in politics at all. I don't care if you're Atheist, a Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Baha'i, whatever. Your religous beliefs should have nothing to do with how good of a president you are.

19. I want anybody that's not a mainstream Christian
I don't think we'd even be able to put a Deist, which a few of the founding fathers were, in the WH. It's sad.

26. I'm an atheist
I have nothing against the Prez having a religion. But I do NOT want a Prez who thinks he talks to a God or THINKS a God talks to him. That's NUTS.

Do another line, George.

Sometimes I think it'd be worth putting up with Communism just so we could get the godless bit that goes with it.

Okay.

I'm not saying that for another three weeks.
