All in all...Kerry benefited from the debates...can't say the same about * |
|
While we won't have any polling data availiable for a few days (other than snap polls), it's safe to say that the debates have benefited Kerry and Edwards more than Bush/Cheney.
Before the debates people had a death watch for KErry. Things were really looking down. Excitement was sapped. Morale was low. People had almost resided to this idea that Bush would win. Polls had Bush up anywhere from 5-10 points.
After the first debate though, everything turned around. Kerry made it a race. He made the thing competetive again. He told the people (and especially his supporters) that he had not given up, and that we should not give up hope either.
Kerry kept the momentum going...And so did Edwards. He faced off the supposed superhuman bulldog. Well both Kerry and Edwards did exactly what he set out to do. They made the differences obvious. Kerry showed that he can be strong and resolute, but wouldn't necessarily be stuborn and foolish. He remained calm and confident, but never cocky. He showed what a president looks like. He looked dignified, capable, competant, and respectable.
Bush looked dopey, immature, and unfit for a job he never should have had...and didn't aquire legitimately.
