Did anyone else think that Bob Schaefer's last question was a waste?
I also thought he was pretty soft on GWB.

I want to know where all the questions about the stonewalling about the outing of the CIA agent, Iraqi prison abuses, Cheney's refusal to turn over names of energy panel - the list goes on and on.

Is there anyone in the country who isn't afraid to ask real questions?

1. I thought it stunk, but I LOVED Kerry's response....I am always a
softie for men who refer to their Moms.

And what in the world makes Laura Bush a 'strong' woman, other than having to wake up every day next to THAT?

I have yet to find a single person who can give any info on Laura Bush at all. She is invisible as a person.

4. I was at a debate party..
and about half the people there got emotional when he began to talk about his mom. This was aimed at female voters, no doubt. And us momma's boys. I miss my mom.. *sniff*

45. Lost my mom right after election in 2000
She would have died again if she knew the Supreme Court elected the Chimp. She didn't live long enough to suffer through the Supreme Court appointment. I thought it was a wonderful gesture for Kerry to mention his mom.

19. EXACT same thing happened at my debate watching party
And this should not be underestimated. The undecided women who were bashing Bush and Cheney all four debates suddenly made positive comments about Bush. They loved the personal story about meeting Laura at a barbeque.

That question was virtually a softball for Bush. I was waiting for stem cell or the environment, as another thread mentioned.

My debate watching males split 6-5 for Kerry. The women were 5-3 for Kerry, the worst split among women for Democrats in all four debates. I'm sure that final question swayed at least one woman and maybe two. Not necessarily the way they will vote, but the dialogue during our post-debate feast focused almost as much on that question as the rest of the debate combined.

and yes, I wish he had ask a real question.

Kerry responded better than Bush. I liked that he talked about his mother
rather that tell us how he met his spouse or some other Bush-like crap.

21. The pt. was to show a personal side of the candidates. Who they
pick as spouses also says a lot about them. And what they have to say about their wives and their relationships says a lot about them. It's very relevant (and telling).

People have heard plenty of Bush's blabbering confessional moments, but not Kerry.

In the TV age, that seems to be the most important thing about being "presidential".

Edit: oh, yeah, I also agree that schaeffer sucked, and that the question was crpp

12. Weakest moderator among the three debates
Didn't let the debate flow freely; didn't allow for rebuttals on the really important questions; tossed out some of the most inane questions which insulted the very serious nature of this meeting. I have to say I was truly disappointed in Sheiffer and expected much better, possible bias notwithstanding.

31. Negative to that here.
I was ready for anything but thought he did a great job. Bush wanted to respond several times to Kerry's knock outs, but Schieffer didn't let him. He got a lot of questions in. All of them let Kerry make more points.

15. I thought it was a good question, and Shieffer was great. A very
neutral, likeable moderator. The last question was to show a personal side of the candidates.

It was noteworthy, however, that Kerry had nothing good to say about Teresa. I noticed that. If I were Teresa, I'd be pretty hurt.

"integrity, integrity, integrity" -- I don't think she was hurt.

Also he talked about her in the marvelous speech he gave when he accepted the nomination. I liked his going to his mother because it was outside the rather silly question without disrespecting it.

20. No, he was talking about his mother.
He said nothing separately that was personal about Teresa, but he lumped her in with something he said about his daughters.

The only ref. to Teresa separately was about marrying up. No big deal. I just thought that if I were his wife, I'd be kinda hurt. I think he was unprepared for that question. They both were.

:wtf: was Schieffer thinking? These are NOT non-issues. With oil at $50 plus a gallon, alternatives are suddenly economically viable. Are we doing ANYTHING to develop them--hydrogen cars aside, since there's no fucking hydrogen and they don't work anyway.

As to the environment... well, where to start?
