maybe i just wasn't paying enough attention, but

1) bush just TOOK an extra 30 seconds whenever he felt like it

2) it seemed like many of the questions went kerry 2min - bush 90sec - no kerry30sec followup, just right to the next question.

anyone else notice this?

1. I kept wondering about missing followups--toward the end esp. it
seemed like both answered and that was it........

2. yes, that's where the debates had been the most unfair
the chimp got to respond anytime it wanted to. but anytime Kerry signaled he wanted to respond he would not be allowed to.

3. no, you're right
I said the same thing. He kept skipping his request to follow up and would go with a new question to shrub.

4. I noticed that too. Kerry was not given the same opportunities to respond.
Even with the moderator favoritism Bush fell on his smirky face!

5. Bush wasn't allowing the moderator to determine whether there would
be more follow up; Kerry was.

i.e. as in SO much, Republicans think the rules are for everyone else; they're right so they get to break the rules.

9. Yes! The rules apply to Kerry, not to Bush*, in Bush*boy's view. nt

Yep he did...and bush three times by my count simply started talking without waiting for the moderator telling him to do so; and it was SUPPOSED to be at the moderator's discretion.

7. I did too

There was one point where I could tell that Kerry had something big to say because of his anxious body language and then he raised his hand slightly. I was excited because I was expecting a major smackdown, but he was passed over by the moderator. He took it like a man though. Bush would have had a hissy fit!

8. I noticed it, too. Read here tonight that Schieffer's brother

is president ot the Texas Rangers "and the families often golf together."

Silly me, I'd have thought that might disqualify someone from being a moderator.

And of course he never pointed out that Bush* hadn't actually answered the question but had just talked about whatever he felt like talking about. Kerry, OTOH, answers questions and THEN talks about whatever he feels like talking about!)

11. He did but it's okay.
Kerry had to prove tonight that he could kick ass with one hand tied behind his back. He had to not just win but conquer and RULE over Bush and that's just what he did. With one hand tied behind his back.

14. You are right on
My first post in the debate forum was about that very thing. I think Schieffer gave the Shrub a pass and let him speak out of turn, while ignoring Kerry's requests for a follow-up.

In spite of all that Kerry still cleaned house, especially in the last 45 minutes. It just goes to show who has the sharpest mind. I can hardly wait until he has to negotiate with foreign governments...they won't know what hit 'em.

15. I noticed it too.
Kerry seemed to be denied follow-ups and had to use his own question time to go back and rebut *'s bizarre mis-statements. I really thought Schieffer would be a fair moderator. It looks like I was wrong.

16. Not just you. It was noticable.
Bush took extra time but Kerry never got extra time. The thirty seconds were all one way.

Just like the vote - Republicans never play by the rules so Democrats have to play better and win bigger!

Was most frustrated at the end - but Kerry covered the extra Bush response in his closing.

Kind of sucks when you are watching while your side is being cheated. Schaffer has always seemed Right Wing to me, though, so not suprised (and my mother has sworn he leans right for some thirty years).

17. Why....
Why does Kerry always have to do the closing comments first? Why can't we ever end with Kerry doing them? :freak:
