He did not look "Presidential"....
And he is the President, fer chrissakes! That is what struck me the most tonight. Bush looks beaten and sickly, he displayed Personality #3 of three debates, terrifically uninspired. Policies and everything else aside, he can't fill his own shoes and I think that came across loud and clear.

1. Bush's body language was almost as bad as the first debate
He had that "stick up the ass", eyes frozen open, creepy smile on his face -- when he wasn't blinking and twitching.

Bush was much better in the second debate than the first or third, where he could walk around and get out the nervous energy. Speaking at the lectern, giving substantial coherent answers and standing still seems to be difficult for him.

I look at this guy up there speaking and still can't believe he is president.. the most powerful position in the world. Scary.

2. No, he certainly didn't!
If you have never heard of them, and then see them for the first time and had to pick who is the president, we all know who you'd point at.

I watched the debate at FoxNews. It's funny, when they have a close-up with both of them on screen, they're the same height!

5. But when they're "the same height," Bush* looks so close and

Kerry so far away! It's quite comical, really.

3. It's so freaking ironic.
The same thing happened to Bush this time that happened
to Gore last time--the refashioning of his persona after
each debate. And here I thought Bush was Mr Natural,
Mr Down to Earth, Mr What You See Is What You Get. I'm
so disappointed to find out he's a phony who couldn't decide
what face to put on. First, the Scowler, then the Frantic, then
Clarabell the Clown*. It's true about what goes around...

*from Tom Shales.

4. Two Big Secrets Happening
Most Democrats are still not sure we've seen what we've seen. It's too good to be true. The term "perfect storm" hits the nail on the head. We knew this brainstem was a pompous, ignorant ass, but no one thought his handlers would let that side show to so many people. We're still pinching ourselves...keeping our real glee quiet until we know what we saw means a big victory. Kids...I sense that's happened. But no time to let up...let's take the high and see what more we can do.

The Repugnicans are in a total state of denial. They saw their manchild meltdown Cpt. Queeg style during these debates and they've lost their compass. Kerry delievered 1,000 cuts in those debates and the bleeding is about to start spurting. These people are still dangerous, and who knows how more shrill things can get. But then maybe they'll start to feel things slip away and do the same themselves.

6. Common sense says a lot of people should be

rethinking their plans to vote for Bush* but common sense said nobody could support him over Gore, too.

Some people just WANT an inept, not too smart, good ol' boy in the Oval Office.

8. Fool Me Once, Fool Me Twice
The political landscape is a lot different this year. The boyking was mostly unknown and Gore was too known. We had a budget surplus, not a defecit...millions had jobs and health insurance who don't today...and the concept of this country being stuck in another Vietnam-type mess was not even pondered.

This boy is the root cause of all these problems and it's becoming obvious to more and more people...and his support is about to melt away.

Today I had a meeting with a banker...almost 40'ish, JP Morgan, veteran and the exact person the GOOP had bred & groomed for the past 2 decades. We got into the election and he told me he wished it was over. I asked why, and he said things have just gotten so bad and ugly.

Then I offered him the same softball I've used on several other Repugnicans this year...I asked him "Tell me why Bush deserves another 4 years". Here's a man whose well versed in both economics and the military. He couldn't say a thing (these days few do)...then confessed that he plans to sit this election out. Was I a fool to say he shouldn't???

Cheers!

7. * smiled his almost-smirk, laughed inappropriately...
... when refuting Kerry's plans for health care. He said Kerry's health plan would cost a gazillion dollars and "(laugh) how is he gonna pay for it?"

My thought: "So you think that's funny Mr. President? It was you who blew through our savings."

Bastard. Of course it's funny to him -- this is exactly what Gingrich, Rove et al. intend to happen when they talk about reducing the federal government to where it will fit into a bathtub and then drowning it.

There's no need to outright cancel any social programs and face the wrath of the multitudes -- all they really have to do is defund them (I think it's called starving the beast) to the point where the programs collapse and fail. All the better if the country has already been run into massive deficit -- golly gee, we don't have the money, awwww so sad, but look how compassionate we are, you can go ask the church ladies for help. :argh:

John Kerry wins on depth of understanding and intelligent presentation. Our guy did very well. But half the country is predisposed to like Bush, and I don't have any idea if Kerry managed to persuade any of them to change their vote.

Our time is running out -- certain DUers have been gloating all year that some major scandal or other is brewing and will detonate all over Bush any day now, causing him to lose the election big-time. All I can say is, if all the crap that's already been in the papers and on tv hasn't managed to stick to the Bush camp, whatever else is out there will have to be awfully radioactive and awfully well-reported day after day after day for it to have any impact on the November 2 election.

Bring it on.

Hekate
