Should Bush apologize for saying that Kerry
exaggerated when he actually quoted the president accurately about Usama bin Laden? Of course he should, but instead his aides are trying to spin the debate in such a way that people forget this most important point in the debate. Our job is to promote as much public awareness of this as possible: president Bush said he didn't know where UbL was, didn't think about it much, and didn't think it was that important. It's as bad a debating error for Bush to deny having said this as it was for Ford to talk about no Soviet influence in Poland. Let's use this to our advantage.

"Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama Bin Laden," Bush said.

"That's kind of one of those - exaggerations," he said, dragging out the last word for comic effect to lampoon Kerry.

But in fact, Kerry was exactly right.

In a March 2002 clip of a White House press conference guaranteed now to be revived for TV airplay, Bush replied to a question about Bin Laden's whereabouts by saying, "I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him. ... I truly am not that concerned about him."

4. I have only seen the clip once so far ....
and I've had MSNBC, CNN, and Fox on since the debate ended. I hope it gets more play. It is extremely important that we reinforce this glaring error in the president's thinking, as well as his false denial, so that the public's doubt about Bush's ability grows. Can you imagine any other president forgetting what they said about Usama bin Laden?

2. Absolutely, he should apologize, but we all know
that he and his surrogates will never admit to a mistake.

Mistakes? Me, make mistakes? No way!
