My wife said Kerry probably should not have brought up Cheneys daughter |
|
..but that calling him "not a good man" is over the top.
I think Cheneys' wife just demonstrated for us the politics of desperation.

4. Sure. Why not? It's important. |
|
We need to drill the hypocrisy of it all into people's heads. We also need to stop being nasty to one of our own DUers. :hi:

5. I talk shit over with my wife...try it, it works. I agree with her too. |
|
I don't think there's anything wrong with him mentioning her...I just think it gives them an opening to accuse him of exploiting family members.

Yes, I've been busy. It's a critical time for America and the world so I'm trying to have a positive impact.
After browsing the forum a little today, I can see there's lots of angst over that Lynne Cheney comment. Think I'll put my medieval cast iron helmet on. :)
Maybe I'll go phone a couple Sinclair advertisers!

8. Yeah, I thought it was crass... |
|
... at the time. I don't know, there are is such a wide variety of easy slams against the Bush/Cheney horror show, it seemed like that was, well, uncalled for. Sure, Mary is out there supporting her "Dad" and all, but still, it just felt weird!

9. No, it showed the human cost in a way freepers couldn't ignore |
|
Their agenda is homophobic and hurtful, far more than Kerry "outing" a openly homosexual woman that happens to be a top aide to the Bush campaign and an obvious reason why Cheney - no great compassionate - comes down on the right side of the issue.
Shame on Lynne Cheney for making her daughter a "tawdry" issue.

John Kerry is more supportive of Mary Cheney than her own father.

11. He said nothing that was a.) not true and b.) insulting |
|
Being gay is not wrong and it is not a crime. His saying it was just bringing to the forefront the fact that people are dealing with this difficult issue, not out of choice but because God made them that way. The people that think he insulted her think gays are evil anyway and are only looking to have something to say to support their losing stooge.

15. Come on DU, relax on this one. It won't hurt Kerry. |
|
America is smart enough to see it for what it is....fair game for Kerry to mention and not disrespectful at all.
It's obvious that Lynne Cheney was just looking to take a personal swipe at Kerry to try and counterbalance the sound thrashing Bush just received.
That will be the take on it by many pundits.
It's getting airtime because she was pretty harsh and emphatic, that's all.

You could say he threw back in W's face but Kerry was just discussing a known fact and what he thought about it.

18. As Andrew Sullivan says |
|
The fact that people may think that pointing out that the VP's daughter is an avowed lesbian and should have the same rights as married couples is somehow over the top highlights the continued belief that there is something "wrong" with being gay or lesbian.

This is an issue that the Pubs put into play! They are the ones trying to use the gay rights issue as a wedge. Believce me, if the tables were turned and one of Kerry's girls was gay, you'd need a cases of duct tape to keep shrubs mouth shut on the subject.

Mary Cheney is an embarrassment to her fundamentalist mother..plain and simple..she can love her as a kid but be embarrassed by her life style..which means ...don't mention it.
