Did anyone notice these two things last night...
1. When asked about assault weapons, his best "idea" was to prosecute people who use them to commit crimes, ie, let's wait for the classroom of elementary school kids to be slaughtered before we do something. This is the direct opposite of his ideas on "terra," where a preemptive strike is needed. How come one threat presumes guilt until innocence is proven and one presumes innocence until there are dead bodies?

2. Bush's comment on how you can't trust the major media ... most people seem to think that was a flub on his part and he realized who the moderator was and shut up. I think he was making a reference to Dan Rather and it was a low blow.

1. Yes, a reactionary president is what we have. Put out the fire, but
don't prevent it! It's been like that for four years now.

2. He was going to say don't trust the media, but realized that the only way
he could win is if people trust the lies the media tells on his behalf for the next 19 days.

3. Excellent points
The first should be the meme for every democrat to appear on TV. It points out bush's inconsistencies, his lies and how he puts his war on 'terror' ahead of the safety of Americans. And yes, I agree he was making a dig at CBS, the mean, spiteful man he is. It showed a nice contrast in his humor vs Kerry's.

4. Great point on that first one
I didn't think about George's answer on assault weapons in regard to the bigger, war on terror message of preemptive strike. Very interesting.

When discussing the "idea" of prosecuting people who shoot other people, I turned to my husband and said "umm, does Bush not know that shooting people has always been illegal?" The way he was talking about it, it's as if thinks he tamed the wild west and was the first person to come up with this wonderful idea of prosecuting criminals. :eyes:

5. on point 2... news media
I think that was Bush thinking he was being funny, knowing the moderator was from CBS. Unfortunately for him, he just sounded confused.

7. I like this old guy's take on Bush's drug importation flip-floppery

Sharp wit on the old duffer. (My brother had to point this contradiction out to me after the debate. I was too busy laughing at Bush making "Britain" sound like the latest addition to his Axis of Evil, due to their inability to provide us with flu vaccine.)

9. when he said that about the assault weapons I thought the same thing
So . . . you have to have a victim before you'll do anything about it? And that's going to save the next victim how?

But you know that kind of argument makes perfectly logical sense to an entire class of people.

I'm not a gun grabber. That's not radical enough. I'm a gun owner grabber - I say we round up everyone who wants to have an assault weapon and put them somewhere where they can all live together and have group assault weapon orgies to their heart's content.

We'll send the survivors food if there are any.
